In our case we are living just fine on 50% of our pre-retirement income. 3 reason for this 1. No debts home paid off, all major repairs are done, 2 good used cars, etc. 2. Low cost of living We live in Ohio where things are less expensive compared to other locations. For example we do not have tolls on our roads except for the Ohio Turnpike which I do not use. 3. Pre-retirement we where putting 25% into our 401K and another 25% to payoff our kids college loans. So for about 10 years we where already living on 50% of our income.

If Social Security was a forced savings plan shouldn't you be guaranteed a minimum distribution based on your contributions? Someone who never collects or only collects a few years before passing their estate should get the balance of a calculated minimum then. I also think single people get discriminated since a non working spouse can collect 50% of the working spouse's benefit. I would settle for a 25% increase for those who are single. (Run that lead ballon by congress and how far that flys lol)

I don't know about income replacement but for us Social Security will pay for our monthly expenses when we start taking it at full retirement age or later. We are both frugal and fortunate to be in this position. The "never intended" argument is used all the time as an excuse to cut Social Security benefits. It sounds a lot better than "let's cut the only source of income for millions of Americans."

I wanna know why EDV is tanking when they keep cutting rates. Doesn't make any sense

The only thing more dastardly than the 650% increase to the Social Security tax rate, is how poorly it has performed over the years, and how much wealth it has extracted from hard-working Americans. If there is any silver lining, it is that Social Security provides a guaranteed income stream for the demographic of people, dependent on it, who spend substantially on products and services sold by the companies in the S&P.

I know this is “off topic’. But I’ve been modeling Wellesley fund (vs Social Security). Holy smokes.. Wellesley.. that’s only 35/65 in AA.. it crushes returns on SS. This is heartbreaking. The system has let us down,.

I went from 4.2% in 1969 to 4.85% by 1973. We haven’t changed it .1% over 34 years. You think that could be part of the problem ?

Jesus was/is perfect and he had no issues for all to tithe 10%. He didn’t say because you’re rich you should be at 15% and if you’re poor you’re at 5%. He said all 10%. So who are the true greedy selfish ones. It certainly isn’t the rich.

He did not say to tithe.

@ if you want to be technical about it, Jesus referred to tithing 3 times and had no issues with the 10%. I even edited what I wrote above. Bottom line. Are you one of those who think the rich per you should be taxed more. Why.
