I used to fill the controller role just because I don't want my team to have no controller. Now that I'm enjoying playing controllers, whenever I pick a controller, I don't feel like I'm "filling" the role, I'm just playing an agent I genuinely enjoy playing.

Based on the comments, I think I should’ve clarified more about queueing a new agent on an alt account. If your goal is to maximize your win rate and climb in the shortest amount of time possible, you should not be queueing a comp game on a new agent you’re trying to learn. I’ve coached thousands of students at this point, and I’ve seen my own students make the mistake of queueing a new agent they’ve never touched before on their main and end up throwing their RR away. I’ve had some students come up to me complaining that they haven’t ranked up in the last two weeks and when I look at their tracker, they had a 61% win rate on smokes and initiators which were their mains, but they went 0-5 on Raze which was an agent I’ve never seen on their tracker before. That’s easily a whole rank of RR that the student could’ve kept if he didn’t queue that agent. There’s nothing wrong with playing a new agent on your main, but don’t complain or wonder why you’re not ranking up if you were queueing with a new agent. Here’s another example. When Iso came out this week, we had a student who had a 12% win rate on him because obviously it’s a new agent and didn’t know how to get the most value out of his kit. But that set the student back 200 RR from his climb. Using unrated to learn a new agent is very valid, especially I think if you’re below Gold, but trying to learn a new agent only in unrated caps out when the skill disparity can be so high in unrated, and generally people don’t try as hard in unrated. Learning a new agent on an alt account (an account that is very close to your main account’s rank) makes sure you can limit test yourself without having to stress too much about trying to gain that elo back. Smurfing is a big waste of time and you won’t learn anything from smurfing, but I personally think that intentionally trying to learn a new role/agent on an alt account, without the pressure to perform at your highest potential right away on your main, is not the equivalent of smurfing. I’m not telling you guys to make a new fresh account every time to climb from unrated to your main rank when learning a new agent. That would indeed be smurfing like the challenge videos on KZbin. Just have one other account that’s similar to your main’s rank that you use to limit test new plays, strats, and learning new agents while trying your absolute best to win. If you don’t care about min-maxing your win rate though you can ignore everything I said.

@@Zyl722 it's good for when you just start learning the agent, for learning the basics etc. But if you want to use it in an actual serious match with & against people in your elo, unrated won't help you with that too much.

An alt account is not a smurf account. An alt account is one that is placed in the same or a similar elo as your main account. Smurf accounts are intentionally placed and kept in low elos like Iron by trolling in one or two games and then carrying the next few. I have posted this for anyone who does not already understand.

alt account = smurf account. what don't you get? a radiant could have an alt account in ascendant and still shit on them in ascendant. does it mean the radiant isnt smurfing since their account is so highly rated?

for me personally while learning a new agent I play unrated for that. so I play abt 1 unrated per comp match. it's how I learnt to play Jett in a comp game like scenario.

you dont have to always make alt accs, just go into unrated similar experiences, But I prefer custom just to test out all agents and memorize their styles

No no no..... It's not my consistency, this game has issues. One match feels smoother and shots connect superfast and the next match it feels a lil less smooth and enemies one tap me it's like they have 1 ms reaction. Many ppl in valo community have this problem. Some game itll just feel like theres input delay in your shots and enemies will kill u instantly giving u no time to react

I would not agree with making alt account, in my case it is the opposite, things that make me improving was playing unrated with ppl that has higher rank than me, Im iron and I play with platinum above, that what makes me improve
