Wow I'm really amazed that birds can eat lard!!! I googled cause this was my first time hearing about it and I read that they even need these strong fats to help them stay warm in the winter. They seem so delicate I never would've known they could handle it. Very educational!!! Now I want to make these balls. I love birds and feeding them so much 🥰💖💖💖 I love the lesson on cardinal direction too!!! It actually gives me some comfort knowing about it cause you're right, you never know when you might need that knowledge!!! Thanks for the lovely video Alwyn! 😄👏💖💖💖

wood pigeons love red skin peanuts too or any kind of natural nut, the fat balls are usually for winter. try sunflower hearts. you could do the whole thing like flapjacks and do it in a grease proof paper lined baking tray? then when set cut into cubes or squares... just a thought. definitely going to try this recipe.

Buy the large olive oil tin and cut the end off The pigeons will nest and you will have the enjoyment of watching and seeing new life once nesting please do not disturb them . Put the empty tins on a high up fence or wall On a shelf watch the parents joy knowing you are there to help feed their young Biggest rule just feed and let the parents Go about bringing up their family Keep on posting I love your videos Thank you

Just ran into this video at 4:00 AM (I need very little sleep), loved it. Took notes. Especially liked the use of the dead tree, I live in town but it is a wildlife habitat, that looks like a small forest. Perfect place to place feeders. Also liked the enclose patch of lawn, to sit on. I will try to copy it in an cement area next to my back door. Nice video.

Lovely! What could be a vegan alternative to the lard, which is suitable for the birds - coconut fat maybe? Love

Yes coconut fat or peanut butter 🧡

Hi Alwyn, where about's in the UK are you based ?? I live in Cornwall UK, we have feeders in both the front garden and the back. During mating you could perhaps go to the forest to find some lovely pieces of soft moss for the birds to make their nests with. Blessed be. xx ❤

What about the special treat you were going to make just for the pigeons? Its so sad to see them hungry and just hoping for crumbs to fall. And then the one on the roof, looking at the balls but unable to get to them.. ):

@AlwynOak3 жыл бұрын
Yes there are plenty of substites if you prefer, coconut oil is good too
@arlinejernigan3 жыл бұрын
@@AlwynOak I though about that too, as coconut oil gets hard as it cools.

I’ve been making fat balls too! If you want to avoid animal products you can use coconut oil instead of lard. It melts and sets just like lard. 😊 🕊🪶🦉
