@@AlwynOak One thing I've learned over the years is that there will always be more info to be added about crystals, herbs, etc. and there's simply no way to leave enough space for future entries. The solution? A binder you can add pages to (or remove ones you made a mess of without it being obvious) of your preferred size. They come in all different sizes and there are definitely ones that just look like regular, leather bound journals, but they have rings or strings to hold the pages in that can be undone to add or remove pages. You can even make your own with sturdy cardboard and some string very inexpensively.
@AlwynOak3 жыл бұрын
Yes thankyou so much for the tip!! I was going to do it in a clippy binder book and couldn't find a small one anywhere!! So then I came up with the card idea from that. But now I see them everywhere aha 😂💚
@everydayelvenliving3 жыл бұрын
You're welcome! I personally feel that there is so much more pride, joy, and power that can come from something made from "scratch" and personalized with your own unique expression, but sometimes, the aesthetic, energetic feel, or simply quality of a premade item can be just as rewarding.

I use a three ring binder too! It opened up new avenues in creativity for me. I use different things as pages- paper placemats, maps, packaging material… whatever fits in the hole punch and can be saved from the trash!

Oh…My…Gosh!!! I’ve been searching and searching everywhere for a video or tips like this one. I am a beginner with witchcraft and I have always been interested, like an inner witch, ready to be revealed. I’m mostly into celestial magic but I like everything I am seeing here. Is there a video made about what sections or title of each chapter somewhere so I can make my own? That’s the only thing holding me up from making a bos in a 3-ring binder.

I have made 4 books in the past 2 years of practicing. I have written that many because I don’t do artwork or try to make it pretty. I try hard to write and learn all the time. I value knowledge more than aesthetic. I have never really seen any books like that on KZbin so if anyone is reading this this is totally a thing you guys can do 🥰🥰
@wikayne Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing that ! It feels good when you realize you are not the only one who does that. I know how to draw and paint, and I'd love to do it on my Books, but there is so much to research, to learn and to write, that I feel like it would be a waste of my time If I'd draw instead of reading, learning and writing... Thanks again. Take care.
@lunarvyx40058 ай бұрын
I'm actually doing this with my travel size grimoire. Even though it's thick with 660 pages, I'm only writing in it so it can hold as much information as possible that's relevant to my path. I'm making it my practical book, but it's also like a blueprint for my large Grimoire that will have more aesthetic with the information. If i can write everything in my smaller book, then everything and more will work for my larger book that has 800 pages. Loving my small grimoire though, I'm actually more excited to just write in it than i thought i would be. Totally support this idea.

Since I'm a Virgo sun/Virgo rising I go a little batty when things aren't organized logically so I use a binder so I can insert new pages and keep topics together. However, what it has in efficiency it lacks in... well... magic. So I love looking at books like yours that inspire me to let loose and be a little more creative. Thanks for the tour!

i have tried over and over again and the only thing that has stuck with me is using notion to write everything down so i dont have to worry about having to tipex things out or having to restart pages because i messed up a drawing etc but youre right in saying it lacks the feeling of magic, of creativeness, and me. as much as i adore "traditional looking" BOS like alwyn's, ive decided that im going to rewrite everything from notion neatly and plan out the pictures before i draw them (or draw them on a different piece of paper/post-it note and stick it in) and then neatly organize everything in a binder😭 im a chaotic researcher and will get halfway through writing things down and researching that i constantly start new topics and have a thousand tabs open that i know even if i calculated how many pages i might need, something will go wrong and ill restart it. good luck to you and all of us on tackling our perfectionist traits and heres to hoping theres a spell out there for it!!!! (sorry for the paragraph ahah x)

You can buy leather at a hobby store and cover the binder, you can also purchase cloth paper sheets online and get very artistic even with the binder which i plan on doing once i get my original binder out of my storage unit. Thank you so much for sharing!!! I'm brand new and it's a bit overwhelming to start: SO much information to learn and I don't want to leave anything out. Thank you for sharing your lovely books with us. I know that I need to slow down in my wanting to learn about everything. I'm very new to all this and I run off in all different tangents. I keep most of my info in various word documents because I can type faster than I write (plus I can copy and paste things I've found too), so I guess I have a Microsoft Word of Shadows! I always intend to write things up nicely at a later date but this doesn't happen too often I'm afraid. Seeing your books and cards has inspired me to get going again though. x

What a great video! New subscriber here. I’ve been practicing witchcraft since 1980 & regarding a Book of Shadows what I have learned is this~ do not compare your BoS to others. You do you. The first thing I always do to get over the whole blank book thing is dedicate the first page to protecting the book. This can be a pentacle, a poem, or a Sigil; depends on what you’re feeling. Personally I do a pentacle with a sigil I designed for protection in the center of the star. After that the book is already used and you’re free to add whatever you like ^^ I also loved your idea of what being a witch means to you. I may add that myself later.

I now have a new one that i will lovingly keep, mistakes and all, and i love your approach to your own. The best lesson ive learnt along the way is simply there is no 'right or wrong' way, and DONT compare you own BoS to anyone elses, especially one you see online or on a tv show! They need to be personal to each of us, and no approval from anyone else is needed ☺Blessed Be.

Fantastic! Just like someone else said, finally a 'real' BOS! I've seen some beautiful pages in my time, that probably took days to complete, I find them so inspiring but in all the wrong ways because for me they're not realistic. I can honestly say being 30 now and realising I started my path over 16 years ago I still don't have a full book to show for it! And it is because I've always found it intimidating, wanting it to be perfect and I have unrealistic expectations. I've ripped countless pages because they're not Beautiful enough, I've started so many and given up. I've bought dozens of beautiful notebooks over the years and only written on the first few pages. I've made a few books too but I've never felt they were good enough. I've probably spent months searching the internet for beautiful templates I could copy, having hundreds of pictures saved for later, but later never comes. I've learned alot and my most vital tip to anyone who feels the same is: Buy a fancy ring bound notebook!! Best thing I've ever done. It's fake leather has a beautiful embossed tree on it. Has paper that the ink doesn't soak through. It's refillable and I can write whatever I want and then ORGANISE IT! I can research herbs one day and the moon the next and it doesn't matter because I can always reorganize the pages so that everything is in the right place 😍 it's so simple.. why didn't I do this sooner! Go now, type in leather ring bound notebook on Amazon! 😅

A beautiful video as always, Alwyn! You are so right. I was so overwhelmed and intimidated by those amazing BOS's out there. Mine never seemed good enough. As a beginner, it is really easy to fall into that trap. Also what I felt, was that I spent a lot of time putting thins in my BOS that other people told me should be in there. It's really important to put only that in which really resonates with you as a practitioner.

What if you can’t see your aura? I used to be able to see them when I was younger but now it’s harder for me to see

I immediately loved your vibe the first time I watched one of your videos: it was for Mabon this year. But I now know why I really felt so at home...we share the same birthday! Not the same year because I am a little older 😅 LOL. But 3rd Decan aquarius is rare and we have delightful Venus as a ruling planet! What a blessed gift for me to find you, a kindred spirit who speaks the same language! 💖🙏🏻🧚🏻♀️🌟✨

Such lovely book of shadows! I'm doing some research into Wicca and kept hearing about book of shadows and wondered what it was. It's like a personalised guide to your sect of spirituality if someone was curious, they could read your book and get an insider's perspective. Very interesting!

The pentagram is very popular as a protection symbol in new age and pagan people. It seems the Swastica gives the same protection. If the symbols really protected. They wouldnt stop using one of them because they would look bad. That would be almost like a christian being ashamed of the cross. With all respect, i just saw a documentary of Swastica used before ww2.

You *has huge alter with a shit ton of stuff* Me *nope* Also me 'hey, when will you be off tomorrow? My coworker '3. There's a storm rolling in. I don't want it to rain while I'm at work.' Me 'consider it done.' The next day *absolutely no rain, just gray cast clouds and high winds until 3:05.' :/ Also Me via snap 'damn, it's raining... I can't go outside.... oooh wait, duh. Pause.' The rain *literally pauses for 20 minutes while I'm outside* :/ wtf am I doing wrong? Also, my favorite color is a pale green so I got it on my chest tattoo (the helm of terror) before even realizing its the color of the heart Chakra because I still don't really care for those.

I have beautiful empty journals bcuz im afraid to mess them up. So i keep notes on my phone. But theres something soothing about books. My daughter told me to just write something anything. I was stuck. I wrote i am magical. Then she told me to write i am beautiful. It was surprisingly hard but therapeutic we both started crying.

Lovely video. I'm slowly working on my book of shadows but after watching this video have realised my first book will also be for dumping the basics of what interests me in witchcraft. I have also decided to have seperate notebooks for tarot and astrology which are the areas I want to focus on the most. I like how you have arranged the information in your books. I wish I could divide mine up into different sections but know that this will be impossible as I have collected so much information especially from Pinterest and found so many great resources. I also need a Wheel of the Year in my book, but being in Australia I'll need one for the southern hemisphere.

This is exactly what happened to me, I had so much information but needed to organize it. But ill tell u how I organized mine, I divided it into chapters so for the first chapter and first page I made a cover then a book blessing page then the next page was about me like my zodiac sign birth chart etc. Let me know if you need help or have any questions

Hi sweet girl! Can I pick your artistic witchy creative brain? I decided to do my book of shadows in a vintage “leather” (vinyl) 3 ring binder, so I can organize my thoughts in different sections. Anyway, I want to beautify the vinyl cover. I have no ideas how to do this! Any suggestions or creative ideas?
