Some fun facts about this routine: - After taking time off after 2012 and then making a comeback, this routine is harder than her 2012 one - She was the only finalist without an H pass but still placed second because of her connections and tumbling execution - Raisman has never been a natural dancer, but she worked so hard on it (look at how steady that double L turn is) Excellent routine, well deserved silver, and if she hadn’t been competing against the greatest WAG tumbler of all time (Biles) she would have repeated as Olympic champion.
@_JoyceArt5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t know she isn’t a natural dancer by looking at this routine.
@Andrew-pf5fj5 жыл бұрын
Her first pass's main tumbling element itself may be rated an E, but with the collective connections, it's an I. That's how I've always looked at it.
@demetriromano5655 жыл бұрын
Andrew Yes, that’s absolutely true and what I was trying to get at with “connections”. Instead of throwing one huge skill she took a different path towards building difficulty and ended up with an I-equivalent pass.
@kp3955 жыл бұрын
And her first pass is actually "I" equivalent in terms of difficulty.

@Rachel Dashow I think it's the difficulty of the pass :)

I love that you actually see improvements that Ali makes over time. Her dance to this was lightyears away from her 2012 performance. Her double layout in 2015 needed a bit of polish, and by the 2016 Olympics it was fabulous. That double-L turn got better every time she performs it. Still one of my favorite routines. Well done.

When I watched her in the Rio Olympics I was a semi-retired band geek, and immediately recognized the music from The Red Poppy. Less than a year later I joined a community band, and not long after I played a solo on what's commonly known as the Russian Sailors' Dance. I'm not sure if Aly was partly responsible for me picking up my flute again, but still an awesome connection.

Probably not going to compete there because of her advocacy work, and she hasn't given any indication that she's been training at all, and she'd really need to be at this point if she was planning on competing. I think she sees her work with other sexual abuse survivors as more important to her.

Definitely two amazing routines. This music fits Raisman perfectly, but Biles has better facial expressions and is a lot smoother in her dance. Artistry is so open to interpretation- I’d have said Biles is more artistic, actually, but also see where you’re coming from- which I guess is why we need a code.
