Alyeska, AK -- March 2022

Skiing at Alyeska, AK in March 2022. We had a blast with the amazing snow. The highlight was Christmas Chute!

I have hundreds of days at Alyeska when I lived there years ago. Unfortunately, it was before the North Face was open. I can remember standing at the rope occasionally, looking down what is now known as Pandora and really wishing we could ski it but knowing that we wouldn't probably survive the avalanche. Plus, you would have had a long, hard traverse out. I'd love to go back and ski all that terrain. In the video Christmas looks pretty steep but once you dropped in I could see it wasn't too bad. 30 degrees is what I guessed and that seems accurate based on your STRAVA note. Warning at the top seems kind of severe considering the actual steepness. Looks like a ton of fun though. One thing seems odd to me however. I still occasionally check the Alyeska snow report and look at live cams. I never see tracks up in the glacier bowl. We used to hike up into there and ski that all the time.

Way too many people crowding that chute, one of them triggers a slide and 4+ bodies need to be dug out

This run is not nearly as steep or as scary as anyone makes it out to be. Dont go on this run if you arent skilled, however.

Yeah its just mainly cuz of how icy it gets when too many people ride it so its a slippery slope for some people, just gotta be careful as always.
