In the poem, she's speaking about a friend that she's secretly in love with but he does not feel the same way. At that part, he had called her while she was in Paris and asked her how romantic the city was. She said that it was "so romantic," but she really wanted to say that the city spoke to her on another level. The city made her evaluate her love for him and question as to why they aren't together. Well, at least that's what I think she means. In any case, this is a beautiful poem.

I got cheated on while I was in Paris so this poem really helps me heal. I saw her performing live at my school & when these words hit me, I had to fight back tears-- especially since I was alone in the front row. Amazingly powerful words & voice ❤

Interesting... I've not heard this poem in many year. While reading "Hemingway's Daughter" I came across the lines "You belong to me and all of Paris belongs to me and I belong to this notebook and this pencil" and it immediately made me want to hear this poem again.
