I’m dealing with my dad recently in stage 5, he’s been annoyed almost every time we try to help him or remind him of things. And when he gets angry he throws things and becomes violent. Takes a lot of things personal then its hard to explain like hey we are helping you and are here for you

My sister was a top journalist for NBC, in NYC, for over 30 yrs. She retired to Ridgefield, CT, at 64. She started forgetting things, almost immediately. She started loding her balance. She was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia, at Mount Sinai, in NYC. Round the clock care, slured speech, diapers, etc! , for 4 yrs in her home. The last 3, were at the assisted living facility, The Residence, in Darien , CT. Lewy Body Dementia , destroys the brain, in 5 to 7 yrs.

Thank you so much for sharing - I volunteer once a week @ a government home for the age. Do you have any ideas on group "games" we can "play" with adults with Dementia? People get their basic needs met, but, there are no extra hands to "stimulate" the elderly with the little functionality they have. Much appreciated.

“ They” like the people suffering from dementia were another species. I hate this absolutely. My friend has dementia. She didn’t take a stupid pill she’s just losing her memory. I treat her as I’ve always treated her but she tells me others including her family treat her like she’s a child with learning difficulties. I don’t care what the diagnosis or prognosis is calling people with dementia” they” sets them apart as other and adds to their distress. It can happen to anyone of us remember that. How we are treated after diagnosis leaving aside the practicalities of care that go with disease is critically important to the emotional well being of those afflicted.
