Omg GIRL you were making me so nervous when you were touching that opuntia lol! Watch out for the glochids, those are the tiny ones that get in your skin and become a part of you forever😂 Also I've heard the "papyrus" one called paper spine cactus so you were right on the money!
@simonesicard4347 Жыл бұрын
Same thought about the opuntia!!!

I’ve just received my monkey tail cactus from conservatory Archives, I live in Cambridge, and I was delighted when a nice man turned up at my door with my plant in a lovely brown carrier bag, so they do really make the effort to deliver even out of London with the great little brown paper bag….. so nice. Plant is super healthy and cute too.

I have to touch them all too. 😂 I mean, you have to know how careful you need to be. A poke is ok, sticking in your skin for all eternity is not! The first test saves us from a lot of pain in the future!

Great haul of cacti you got. Love the booby cacti been looking for one for ages just not got around to getting it yet. Actually got one of the tephrocacti bout a month ago, sadly all the segments fell off in transit so instead of one now have four lol. Be careful although they don’t look spiny the little hairy spines get in your skin and itch like hell, which I found out repotting them. Good luck with your new collection 💚
@susanwilkinson867 Жыл бұрын
That was a nice cacti haul, be careful with the tephrocactus as it grows new segments as they fall off very easily. Only subscribed a few weeks and I’m loving your channel

Hi Emma, great haul ! Omg you spent a packet on that lot, but they're all such nice specimens. I think your Hawarthia freebie is possibly Haworthia coarctata var. adelaidensis or similar. Great they deliver them personally - like ordering a take-away meal ! 🌵💚

Hi Emma, such a nice haul!! I recently got into succulents myself and have a donkey's tail, variegated bear paw, jade plant, and two peperomias! I love them and I hope I don't drown and kill them. Good growing to both of us.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels the urge to stab myself on cactus spines! The common name of your tephrocactus is paper spine cactus if thats easier. Be careful because they have glochids (the hair like spines that are common on opuntia) at the base of their long papery spines!
@Quackor10 Жыл бұрын
And there's also var. inermis that has no spines at all and looks like stacked up pinecones!

Hello Emma! Be aware of the Opuntia. You think that theres no spines………….they are full of very small spines, hard to see just looking at them. The spines of Opuntia is hard to get out of the skin. They are very beautiful…..but just be aware.

dont touch the bumps on the opuntia, theyre glochids, like little glass needles that get super itchy and irritating in your skin, tweezer jobby to get them out 😭

could you show us a video of how you are arranging them in your cacti cabinet?
@jpgypsyxo Жыл бұрын
If they are squishy, it most likely needs to be watered! That’s how I can tell when mine need water!
@GoodGrowing Жыл бұрын
ooh that's a good tip! gunna give them all a good soak & actually repot v soon
@jpgypsyxo Жыл бұрын
Yeah! They should typically feel firm to the touch.. at least the ones you can touch without getting poked! I’d actually love for you to do a video of cacti/succulents in pon! You are one of the only people I’ve seen do it so far and I’m super curious about it. It’s been something I’ve wanted to try but a water reservoir for these types of plants don’t feel right. Any tips/tricks appreciated.

Nope sand “bakes” up at the top not letting water to go properly

wtf.... that coryphantha alone is worth the whole lot. that's a great deal. i wouldnt be as worried of giving any of them too much light (aka bleach) like you would for aroids. the more light and the more air flow, the better! if you ever decide to put any of em in a sunny window however, that's when you would need to worry about acclimating them to the light. definitely burned a few because of that !!
@gentlegook Жыл бұрын
and if they're squishy/have give to em when you poke em, that means theyre thirsty!
@gentlegook Жыл бұрын
probably some haworthia attenuata or fasciata cultivar
