Am I Going Crazy?

With the supposed new Donkey Kong design in the new Mario Kart shown in the Nintendo Switch 2 trailer some people have said that the changes to Donkey Kong were minor and to me I feel like he looks like a completely different character.

I wonder if they might want to bring Donkey Kong back to its arcade roots while still incorporating some elements from the Donkey Kong Country series. For example, they could revive Donkey Kong 1984 or Mario vs. Donkey Kong but with DKC-inspired features - like a jungle level based on Jungle Hijinx or a storyline where DK and Diddy kidnap Pauline, forcing Mario to rescue her.

No, I agree. It's just kind of like "why". Like I said before I don't think it will stick. I think Rare DK is the cartoonier of the two, but I liked that about him. I don't see why Nintendo seems to consider him like their first son led astray, like let go of the arcade design it wasn't that good, he was literally just a generic cartoon ape back then.

Yeah, I'm not sold on Doofy Dong here either. It is just very odd that after thirty years of the classic Donkey Kong design, they go and completely redesign him. Though, who knows? Maybe they just changed his design only for Mario Kart? I guess time will tell. Good thing is there will probably be a mod to return him back to his Rare design! 😅
