I think the biggest factor to succeeding in medical school is determining whether or not the juice is worth the squeeze. Medical school is a TON of work (Emphasis on a TON) and if you don't have an unrelenting determination it is easy to become frustrated and burn out. Anyone can be good enough for medical school. Finding your passion and drive early can make all the difference. Check out our youtube channel and watch our medical school VLOG episodes about finding your passion and study motivation! Be sure to subscribe while you are there for great advice from a 4th year medical student entering the residency match.

Since you said you decided on the medicine route during your sophomore year (which is a similar situation to mine), did you have enough time to finish your pre-reqs before you're supposed to take the MCAT, or did you take a gap year?

Hi there. I'm one of those who is lacking in confidence school, base on the past.. I'm not even in pre-med or medical school, but I do plan on going back to school and trying to get into a nursing program.. That's the plan.. I just wanted you to know that you are one of the people who are helping me build my confidence and self esteem, my ambition and drive, and how inspirational you are, not just to younger people looking to get into med school, but to older people like me, who have been through a dysfunctional upbringing and trying to get things together.. To be honest, I don't know how I will do.. I was never a good student. But I was also dealing with dysfunction, which lead to a lack of interest, numerous bad habits, ZERO guidance, not getting along with teachers, bad sleep hygiene and low energy, which, as you can imagine, lead to failure.. It's going to be a long, lonely journey, but even if I fail, it would be in pursuit of my dream.. My "calling", if you will.. Wanted to say thank you.. =)

You should talk to a professional about these issues or maybe you already do? Sometimes there is a underlying cause that you didn't know about, and a professional can really help. Good luck pursuing your dream!

For emergency medicine and surgery, is there any difference. I know that this may sound really stupid of me but in greys anatomy the surgeons and stuff do things in the ER as well, along with performing surgery. Is this the case in real life?

Another very helpful and motivating video! Your are definitely an inspiration. I am a pre-med student currently in community college and due to the stigma there is towards community college, sometimes I feel as if I will not be able accomplish my dream of becoming a doctor. I know that where there is a will there is a way, but still there are times where I struggle with pessimism. I was wondering if you could do a video on maintaining a positive attitude in the path towards medicine or something along those lines. Thank you for everything that you do!!

what was your "plan b" in case you didn't get accepted into med school? (if any). how did you pick it?. I want to major in biology because I genuinely enjoy it and go to med school, but, there aren't many jobs for someone with a bachelor's or master's in biology thanks. btw I want to become an ID thank you for any response
@silas22876 жыл бұрын
to add, any response is still appreciated. 1 yr later and now I'm in sort of the same situation.
@desired23965 жыл бұрын
If you do get a bachelor/masters in biology you can get a teaching degree and teach or enter a specific branch of biology(ex- marine biology).If your still in high school(or haven’t declared yet) you could major in a med course like nursing. Also don’t take a super rigorous course that will lower your gpa or it give you enough time to study the MCAT(if you plan to go to new school right after college and not take a gap year). Many Medical schools require a high GPA, MCAT, and high grades in all science courses that you take in college.

Hey! thank you so much for your videos they really help. Can you make a video kind of regarding the last question in this video? Not in the sense of being confident about getting in med school, but if you're an average student in high school (3.5, maybe a few AP) what advice do you have? Maybe certain extracurriculars you recommend or just some things to make the non geniuses have a chance at their dream to be a doctor. Thanks!😄

Hi, I have a question. I am looking to one day become a doctor. However, i have a couple of doubts. One is my age. I am 25 with only one semester of college completed. I feel that i will be too old when i actually start working as a doctor. Have i started too late? Also, i am thinking about becoming a nurse first then apply to Medical school. Everywhere i look i only see negative feedback on this route. However i see it as, if i dont get into med school i will have a good career to fall back on. Thoughts? Thanks!

Idk if you've answered this before somewhere, but I've noticed that students / people in general whose work ethic I really admire are often really good at making the most of their time (ie. studying for 10 min here and there or even after you came home from a long day at the hospital). I know I'm capable of doing those things when I know I absolutely have to, but I struggle with keeping up a decent study routine when I know I can get away with slacking off... It's partially a habit, but still, how do you keep on motivating yourself to go the extra mile? To not settle for decent, but go for good/great results? (even though I'm already pretty stocked about graduating with decent results, maybe that's my problem :p )

I am not yet in school. I am a stay at home mother and I have some free time while the baby is napping or in bed for the night. What topics/subjects would you recommend I start getting a grasp on ahead of time before doing prereqs? I was thinking A&P! Thanks!

I saw you in some fitness video competition video and thought you were looking pretty good. Of course, that won't pay the bills. I don't know how much time you spend at the gym but you would be wise to prioritize, if you don't already; seems like you are getting through school alright though. Just don't let yourself go too much, once you graduate and are working like 60-80 hour weeks as an MD. I guess if anyone would know about health, it's doctors. Remember, it's all about balance in life.

Avraham Adelman It's youtube. There is a comment section for a reason. If she doesn't want to listen to my advice, she can ignore it (which she seems to have done). It was actually meant as a compliment, and I thought it would be a shame if she let herself go. The only one who seems to have gotten offended here, at least overtly, was you.

Are tattoos still a strict thing? I'm not saying full on sleeve but I wanna get a lion on the bottom of my wrist and I'm nervous to get it cause I don't want it to jeopardize my career but if rules have somewhat changed then I'll do it!
@SamMKKK7 жыл бұрын
Kiera Johnson Please don't do it. In my experience, you do not want something as unnecessary, dare I say, as a tattoo to jeorpadize a career you spend your whole life working towards. It's really depressing (like really, REALLY depressing); it shouldn't be a thing, but there are some very particular employers out there. Who knows who yours may be. Seriously. Think extra extra hard about this. I mean, who knows: maybe this might not be the case for you. Maybe you'll get it a place where it remains hidden, or you get a tattoo that isn't so loud and crazy, so you might be fine. But trust me, it gets really heartwrenching when you get denied something you've worked your ass off to obtain only because of a tattoo.
