I'm a quilter, and I also sell online, I also have an Etsy shop. There are some themed quilts that sell extremely well. So I started offering them made-to-order and with personalization. It was the biggest mistake; I no longer enjoyed making the quilts. The joy of creativity was lost; I felt like I was just a manufacturer, and I became burned out. I suggest you assess your sales. Which are your best sellers. Now, take that theme and do variations of it. Post completed creations for sale - not custom or made-to-order (unless you have a manufacturer who can continuously churn out the product on demand). Another option is to consider stretching the production time, 3-4 weeks should be fine as long as it's clearly posted on your site. Continue to make brand new creations based on what brings you joy. Don't give up - this is just growing pains. Good Luck. 😊

I remember watching that video thinking I wouldn’t want the rug either, so I can kind of understand where they are coming from. Seems like you have a good plan going forward though! 😊

Yeah, it’s your business, no need to rush, just causes stress and mistakes.

Please don't let one monkey stop your show. I love the rug. Some people can be dissapointing. Don't feel down about the time spent. There are going to be times like this, lesson learned, and let's try again. Much love. Happy New Year and enjoy your girl and her family.

I think you have good ideas going forward. IMO as a commissioned artist I think you should keep the deposit only if you are making her another rug otherwise she should get her deposit back. It sucks however take the loss as a valuable lesson learned. Why she didn’t want the rug was understandable and also not her fault. The circle could’ve been achieved with a thumb tack, string and pencil or traced. You may want to consider not posting the making of the custom pieces. Film the ones you choose to make on your own. I feel it’s a reason for customers to find fault with your process. Much success ✨

Decorate your own home with the rug, it is very nice. You can offer it for sale as well. I’m sure someone would love it.

One tip I’m learning about Joann’s is their app. If you do an in store pick up, on their coupons pages, they have some decent percentage coupons for that. They also offer one dollar in standard shipping. Saves you time. IMHO and this is just me, I find that giving people an eta of my crocheted blankets is not good. Life happens. People understand that. If someone asks me to make something for them, I give them the link to the Joann’s app, and have them pick out colors and have it shipped to me. I don’t drive and I’m in a fixed income. I still express that I have no guarantees on eta… I’m not a business. Enjoy what I do. I hope that helps. Your gf is right. Lot was only one fluke. There’ll be ups and downs. Learning as you go if you can figure out your eta and if the customer isn’t in any hurry, then that’s the customer to keep. Again, for me, I’m not rich, but I’m comfortable. But with prices going high, I started giving people that link. Don’t give up. ❤ learn from everything.

I know how disappointing that was, but don’t let that stop you. It seems like you have some plans and guidelines to put in place. Just stick to that going forward and do not rush yourself to complete something.

I would give the deposit back. The mistakes and lessons learned as an artist shouldn't be at a customers expensive. Basic shapes can be made without a projector if needed. Best of luck! 😊

If it stresses you out and kills your confidence stop making customs. You will find other ideas. Maybe create yourself a time schedule for your rug making. Planning the processes a little more. I found your channel by chance and let me tell you I think you are a very good artist. Good luck for 2025

In the future, and as you go, you will come up with some solutions to similar situations. Think about investing in a used back up projector in case that happens again... things like that... perfection doesn't happen overnight! You'll be fine. "Be quiet" hahahaha apricot

Bro!! Getting caught up on ypur vids today. Being a sort of new business owner myself, I feel your pain. Have you considered makimg your buisness an LLC? Thats what I have as a lease operator in truckimg. I'm thinkimg, if ever you do that, you can buy your rug supplies wholesale at cost and still charge your intended price. More money in your pocket. Also, anything you buy under your business for work, you save the receipts and claim them on you taxes saving you money. Best to have a small buisness account to help you with taxes at first. Just a food for thought post just to see what you think ok that. Could put your landlord buisness under it to and anything you do to fix it up and repair can also go towards tax breaks. It's what I olan on doing whenever I can be a landlord. I think its worth it to look into. Just just my two cents. I never mean to step on toes or anything.
