### Coach Dave Academy kzbin.info/door/Ipu-V_UN8wKFqNMEHRo-UQ ### Driver 61 kzbin.info/door/tbLA0YM6EpwUQhFUyPQU9Q This is the first time I've heard of Coach Dave Academy, I'll have to check him out. I've watched a fair amount of Driver61 and his breakdown of real racing with applying it to sim racing is excellent. Thanks for that Laurence. It's good to have a few mantras floating through your mind, it helps with staying focused, not letting yourself get spooked, and racing your own race. Go easy on yourself if you do make a mistake and adjust your goals accordingly. Not every race is a podium, dial it back to working on the car in front of you, or even just trying to bring it home. The last thing, if you are too bent, get a tow so you don't ruin someone else's race. ### Have a good time and laugh a little (or a lot!) www.reddit.com/r/iRacing/comments/jdyn1j/dont_ride_the_sausagesor_why_to_always_have_voice/?context=3

The advice at 8:25 is the absolutely the best thing you can do. Imagine how good the racing would be if everyone did that. If 4th is faster than you and your 3rd your just letting 1st and 2nd run away. Let him go and chase down the leaders with the guy that’s quicker than you at the moment.

The best way to learn how to race is by racing. Sure fast hotlaps help get top qualifier, but that doesn't translate to good races. I for one am not that fast, usually 2 secs behind the fastest guy in my split. But, I find it very easy to finish top 5 now due to learning how to attack and defend when the time comes. Just keep racing. Don't be a lab rat and you'll get quicker much faster.

I laughed when I read this, I'm that guy. I hate racing, other people on my track, in my way, 🤣 they slow me down. However, I recently started racing against AI (I wouldn't inflict my lack of race craft on other humans) and well, it's not as pure as seeking the perfect lap, but it's quite fun really. I don't think it'll ever be my first love, but a change is as good as a rest. How do European style racers feel about oval racing? Isn't that a very "pure" form of racing? I mean it's all about the tactics of racing your opponents isn't it?

I actually love what you said here about setups.. i have driven in a community where i feel like all they care about is their setup.. im not the best or the fastest, so often their setups makes me feel unsafe in the car, rather than driving it with a Baseline.. big thumbs up... Other than that.. Your finishing line with beating the faster opponent.. Thats so true and especially in Endurance races! Consistent laps trough the whole session, beats the one that are faster and inconsistent.. Love your channel mate! keep it up

Great talk through. I've found chasing a ghost car really helps even if it's just my own can really help improve my times. Also some Sim racing games allow you to grab the setup of the ghost car you are chasing which is great but not always ideal if you intend to take that setup into a long race. Those setups are usually optimised for an extremely fast 1 or 2 laps and can be unstable or even worse can kill the car if driven for a length of time so it's good to be cautious when using them. I really enjoyed the vid thanks for sharing 😍😍👍

Very good tips, thanks for sharing! To add to your good point about letting faster drivers pass: They will overtake you anyway, but as long as you fight with them, you will loose some time or even risk an accident and loose a lot of time. And the time you don't loose on faster cars can help you overtake or hold off drivers that are about in your skill range.

good video, would also add when you practice or race against the AI, treat the AI as another human driver, this produces good habits, if you do the opposite ie dont care if you bump the AI cars of the track then this will produce bad habits which become muscle memory.
@LaurenceDusoswa
@LaurenceDusoswa 3 жыл бұрын
I would actually recommend never racing against AI. They are coded to give you space and make you feel good. When you then face real people and they don’t give you space, you can easily be fooled into thinking that the AI drives well and real people aren’t following the rules and aren’t opening doors for you. Some AI is better than others but AI will not teach proper racecraft.

I think there’s nothing wrong with buying cheap. It helps to ground the expectations of simulation vs real life. Sim hardware, especially cheaper stuff, is easy to sell second hand at minimal financial loss. I would however recommend that people sim race on PC. Consoles are very limiting.

@@LaurenceDusoswa I agree with you yeah for people who got limited money which seems too be more an more people every year, Goes too show how many greedy CEO' s is happy too make crazy profits while people struggle with covid, Do some of the direct drive wheels have too cost so much?, I ain't too sure but if you mass producing then surely production costs drop so final cost should drop, Sim racing is crazy expensive, I want the V3 pedals 400 quid is bit much at the moment but when I got into sim racing a year ago I had the spare money an was advised too begin with Logitech an console, Worst sim racing advice I have had, Like I said if you like racing then you will love sim racing, An now I have not got spare money an wishing I just bought high end PC an VR, Got skanked with the PSVR aswell no VR support for PC2, DR2 or ACC an that proper pissed me off, So yeah I was given bad info when I bought my rig an console, I only use PC for music production an don't play arcade or games on the ps4, Got a bunch of different games but all I play on at the moment is assetto corsa so payed a grand too play on one game at end of the day, That is not how you keep people interested in sim racing, It's only coz I loves racing I still do it, I will say PlayStation messed up with sim racing the limitations are endless a long list of things I can't do that a PC does, I would pay extra for VR support on the PlayStation an would pay good money for ACC PSVR access, It just feels like people like me are being held back because of limitation with console an cost, Plus sim racing helps my PTSD an mental health that I suffer with daily, Sim racing is an amazing bit of theropy, It's helped me loads, An helped me smoke less erbz aswell, Lol, The benefits of sim racing should be shouted from the rooftops, Lol, Anyone suffer mental health get into sim racing, It will help you plus the community online is amazing too meet new people who want too see you gain skills an improve your racing ability, The Norsh in A.C. is always bit of fun, But yeah I am disappointed in the console way of sim racing, Feels like Consoles are left out of the sim racing world, It's a shame....

Superb video! about setups, I used to tinker and still wouldn't get much faster. What I found that improved my pace the most is to buy setups from CDA (not cause they're very special, they're solid so I know that I don't have tinker with it and if it doesn't work, it's my fault) and spend all the time I used to tinker with setup, tinker with my racing lines.. I got so much faster, of course, relatively speaking that is..

Setup is bliss but its a fact if you’re slow you’re slow and setups are like a glove; they either fit you or do not. Therefore its important to understand the car and its behavior and learn to do setups yourself eventually. But, you contradict yourself at one point...You say you should not follow the line of you’re opponent in front of you then you say you should. I believe if you follow someone that is faster than you, you actually become faster as well because you’re imitating what they are doing. But! By following you don’t necessarily know what your doing better or maybe you do learn the line; it’s pretty subjective I think. I believe there is a perfect line and its there to be learned. There are variations of the “perfect line” but essentially the line you take in qualy will never be the “lines” you use in race. Love your content!
@LaurenceDusoswa
@LaurenceDusoswa 3 жыл бұрын
Maybe it wasn’t clear enough, as another comment says similar to you. When you are of equal or quicker pace, your own lines are gold and you should not be looking at what the car ahead is doing. However, when you are slower, it’s important to realise why, and when a faster car passes you, you will get a clear indication of which corners you need to work on, as they will open the gap in those corners.

I cannot speak for f1 2020, but if the gearing is way off, for example, or you're using hard tyres instead of soft, that can make a difference to a 'slow' driver. But as a general rule of thumb, setup will not make you a fast driver.

How do you feel the balance of the car?
@LaurenceDusoswa
@LaurenceDusoswa 3 жыл бұрын
It’s something you learn but mainly it’s a combination of 3 things. Force feedback, audio feedback and experience. You need to learn the things that unsettle a car and often when the car is not behaving the way you’d in certain corners, adjusting you you approach that corner or balance the car with brake or throttle load can make you faster or slower.

Coach Dave will cost you an arm and a leg his setups are cray expensive, ya Kie25 is like that about his lines and brake points ( he’s not gonna brake till his brake point even if it causes an accident with him it’s full speed or nothing ) he try’s to imitate everyone else’s limes and he’s always causing accidents that way, if someone is behind me that’s faster I let them by and hang onto there slip as long as possible

Getting expert advice is expensive, for sure. Many see value in it otherwise it wouldn't be a sustainable business model. Hanging on behind people is a good strategy to learn and not be under the kind of pressure that will put you off your line.

i completely disagree when it comes to setups, the easiest way to learn how to drive is with a good setup, i'm not a particularly fast driver, but i helped a lot of people get into sim racing from more arcade titles, and each and every one of them is faster with a payed setup, it's not an easy truth but it's the truth, i just spent some money and was instantly faster, and could learn how to handle a car faster...
