Le paquebot EUROPA est un paquebot Allemand construit en 1930 aux chantiers navals de Blohm&Voss à Hambourg.
Il remporte le ruban bleu pour sa première traversée inaugurale le 19 mars 1930.
Il est exploité par la Compagnie Allemande Norddeutscher Lloyd.
Il essaye de rivaliser dans sa décoration intérieur avec le paquebot de la Compagnie Générale Transatlantique ÎLE DE FRANCE.
Au début de la seconde guerre mondiale l’EUROPA est à Hambourg.
En 1945 lors de la capitulation il est cédé à la France en réparations pour dommages de guerre en compensation de la perte du paquebot NORMANDIE qui a brûlé à New-York.
Il va être baptisé LIBERTÉ. Malgré un naufrage partiel, il est renfloué et emmené aux chantiers de Saint-Nazaire pour sa refonte.
Ce film magnifique décrit la rénovation intérieure et extérieure du navire.
Des décorations de l’ancien NORMANDIE seront utilisées à bord.
