I met Dr. Chowning back in 2017. He's one of the nicest person. He gave me an autograph, and we even went to a cafeteria. One of my most precious memories. This year is the first time that I'm studying synthesis. Pd is a pretty interesting software, and your channel is excellent. Thanks for the help, you are awesome 🍻

Your teaching abilities are definitely far above average. Everything comes clear in a way that feels very light and bright. Thanks a lot for these videos and looking forward to arduino explained by you.

Really like the care and info in your videos. I do want to point out that in this an the other modulation tutorial, what you call AM is actually RM (ring modulation), as implemented - AM is almost the same, but the LFO wouldn’t go through zero, but just 1 to zero... its a small difference, but inverting the value of the carrier (ring mod) has the effect of eliminating the carrier tone and *just* leaving the sideband energy... AM creates the RM sidebands, but also preserves the carrier, by keeping the modulator value unipolar, but otherwise, it’s just a multiplication operation, same as. :)

Ah, thanks for info! I wasn't aware of that. Will look into the differences deeper!

The comment you left on the sequencer video is not showing up properly (it happens often unfortunately), could you post again or copy & paste here? Would love to answer the question!!

@@SoundSimulator Sorry about that I removed it because I figured it out. I changed the name of my sample to just kick.wav and then it started triggering the sample. what I had before was kick playbeat.wav. I tested simplifying it as a last resort and it worked thanks a bunch man your incredible and keep those videos coming I'm super inspired by this.

hey! your videos are really helpful and well explained. thanks so much for your knowledge. Can we use these steps to work in plugdata as well? Also, what steps should we take care of if we are doing three synths altogether?
@SoundSimulator5 ай бұрын
You should be able to follow along to this vid with plugdata! You can have 3 separate fm synths of course (and more!)
@vnature4622 Жыл бұрын
4:00 It seems to me that instead of the block "~+" there should be an action "~*" since in FM synthesis the modulating oscillator does not make sound and only affects the frequency of the carrier without making any noise. Here, we rather have a subtractive synth. Also thanks for your videos, appreciate it very much!

hello! how do I have the same output for three different ypes of synth in a same patch. for example, additive, subtractive and am/fm synth are in a same project; what steps should be taken in consideration please? thanks so much
@SoundSimulator5 ай бұрын
You can connect all of three to a single [dac~] :) You can mix/adjust the volume of with [*~] for each of the three synths.

Hi, I keep getting an error message "array1: no such array" and there's no sound coming out of my synth. Everything seems to be in the correct place.
@SoundSimulatorАй бұрын
You don't really need the "array1" stuff to get the audio working. It was more for me to visualize the sound for the video. If there's no sound, please double check that the DSP is turned on for your Pure Data app.
@EricBalcon Жыл бұрын
I tried your modulation but it doesn't seem to work on my imac or on a normal PC, there's no amplitude modulation...may be beacuse i use vanilla version ? I got to put the values inside the osc~ box and not on top like you do.
@SoundSimulator Жыл бұрын
It should work on vanilla pure data too. Which part of the video are you referring to?
