I'm a horn noob but I've learned from trial and error that the upswing seems to inflict more KO damage and tends to be a but faster frame wise while the downswing/side bash are good for when a monster is down. Of course keep your key songs running (Attack, healing and maybe evade window if there is a horn like that)

The fact this was done with a HH shows how much the game has changed, the best way they found to balance the weapons was to make everything broken (I say it as a good thing) Seriously, back in old world games this kind of run would have been impossible with any weapon other than a CB or a GS. Sub 3' is nuts, no matter the monster (even more being that this is an Elder) Keep it great pal

If i remember correctly the Mangacrisp Dango gives Dango Moxie(felyne Moxie) and Dango Adrenaline(Felyne Heroics), so he has Heroics and Dragonheart

What difference does Echo mode and Performance mode have?

Performance has i-frames while echo doesn’t, but they’re both fun

Echo has the advantage of hitting high and lands the shockwave more often, acting as a stronger right swing you can chain after any move. While it moves the hunter forward, it doesn’t act as a big advancing move and more or less lets the hunter maintain position. With it you just have to put one note in the staff and Echo plays all the songs attached to each note. Performance gives plenty of I-Frames and advances the hunter forward, along with sweeping low so it can consistently hit a downed monster. Both are perks, but the former reason being the main use as it’s extremely forgiving in evading attacks, long enough to even evade something like Diablos’ hipcheck in its entirety. With it you need to play two notes in a row to play a song. I-Frames are amazing, but there are some monsters where it’s not necessary to use all the time. Sometimes hitting high is worth giving up evasion, and if you’ve mastered standard evading (or run evasion skills) then the end lag of performance can sometimes not be worth it. But then sometimes you don’t need to hit high at all, and need a fast low hit instead.

@@oyah999 It's all about oppurtunity cost. Some monsters are wide open after a performance evade, with two free hits while a regular evade will move you out of the way of an attack. Pure DPS means nothing if you can't keep it up. This isn't always a good thing since if there is no impact weakzone down low then it's not the ideal strategy when you could reposition for a bigger hit. Monsters that fly often are also prime Echo targets, such as Rathalos. However a monster with low hitzones like Diablos get bodied by Performance, especially since the i-frames make you safe from any of its attacks. This can be seen even in training if you set the head on the dummy to high or low. Simply take what feels better against certain monsters.

My first MH game was World(+Iceborne) on PC, and my first ever weapon (that I saw at a friends place) was the HH, and I was instantly intrigued by the look of the weapon (you're dooting the monster's heads in with a freaking giant guitar) and combos and note mechanic and fell in love with it when I bought the game... I got hooked and have over 200 hours on it so far, but... I don't know ._.' It might be the Switch graphics or something but I don't like anything about Rise... The game looks a lot more cartoony than World, and the Hunting Horn seems a lot more spammy and a lot less tactics, unlike World's HH where you gotta play (admittedly, very slowly) songs when the monster is knocked down, or stunned, exhausted, or just before the fight or after it runs away... :S Idk. Here you just... Do a couple attacks and you got your buff. Permauptime. I'm still just a nub compared to some MH elite that have been playing generations upon generations of this game, but... Idk, seems, uhh, different. Too different. 🤷‍♂️ Guess I'll have to try it when it comes for PC in a year or three :)

Free demo is on PC now, but if you're concerned about the auto playing of songs, you can set it to echo mode and it'll play more like traditional HH. As for graphics, you gotta know that World is the one that's different from the rest of the franchise. Most of the other games are bright and vivid. Still give it a try, the wirebugs are fun :)
