Luseno's famous "weco" fee collection by "Amakuru"... trivial: WECO= western college now MMUST (Masinde Muliro University of Sc and Tech) Likuru= corruption of "wheel crew" i.e. the chief's aide-de camp. Notice the crying stone!

Our historian and luhyia music maestro is simply telling us that governments can eat their own children. It happened in Kenyatta regime and is still happening today through exploitative taxes. This music will be a classic for many years.

For those who don't understand,Amakuru means the headmen in the village. The song is simply about how the headmen harass people in the village.

Great music. Great rendition. "Likuru" is just "Recruit", Luhya pronounciation. Recruits were used to collect hut tax during colonial era, but that continued and got a life of its own post independence when leaders used it to 'eat'.
