I sincerely appreciate your time and effort in making the video. It is always useful to see how someone else breaks down and cleans an Amal. A few comments - It might have been worth mentioning that you were rebuilding an actively "well functioning" carb to avoid some of the criticism around gasket, jet and needle replacement - as someone who has rebuilt older, more neglected carbs I am used to checking and replacing all incorrect (happens) or clogged parts that look worn and Needles wear though its nearly impossible to visually identify issues. My monoblocs would leak fuel everywhere with the missing and old gaskets, but maybe its just my neglected salvage ones... One other tip for your viewers, be careful not to overtighten the tickle, and check tickler-float clearance with a feeler since the tickle is tight on some and can actually impair the float from hitting the float needle even when not pressed. Even a tiny impact when 'up' can cause rich running or overflow. Exterior gaskets can be used to improve tickle clearance. Also the interior block comes out when entirely disassembled, giving you access to clean all the pilot and idle ports which can be done with compressed air after cleaning to assure they are open since this notoriously causes poor idle poor performance in the lower 1/3 throttle on Amals. While they are apart the aluminum polishes up wonderfully too... Thanks again for your effort and starting this conversation! BTW if anyone has found a reliable source for jetting and needle selection by displacement please link it.

Thank you for showing us this video. Now I understand why the chamber top thread quite often is cross-threaded and why the hexagonal items quite often are damaged.

What happened to the choke slide?

That is a simple slip insert, not much to it. This pedicular bike setup did not come with it. so I had noting to show. Choke slides go as a insert in the slide. thanks for asking.

What are your views on boring and re-sleeving the body with a new slide in it?
@Vintage-Cycle

If there is no other option to replace it. The money you spend on machining it. You could spend kittle more to buy a new one. They make new ones. Or spend little less and pickup a decent used one online.

Some Carbs are missing the choke. Realistically the chole is an option.

I'm pretty sure the spacer goes on the spindle first , then the float to align it with the float needle which should be replaced with a modern Viton tipped needle , ethanol fuel eats the old plastic bits ,same goes for the float itself if plastic type.

rebuild??? he cleaned it off and put the junk parts back in??? needle and needle jet in a carb that dirty will be worn out ...the float needle is about $7.00... looks like he put the oldie back in??? the most important part...jet block didn't come out??? with all the little passageways and the all important fibre washer underneath...

All jets were dipped as said in the video. All issues were addressed. These carbs have been good since the rebuild.
