Amalia met Willem-Alexander en Máxima naar Raad van State

Daags na haar 18de verjaardag gaat prinses Amalia met haar ouders naar Paleis Kneuterdijk, waar de Raad van State een bijzondere vergadering houdt. Amalia doet hiermee haar intrede in de Raad en wordt door haar vader - de voorzitter - geïntroduceerd.

Now one gets a glimpse of the pressure that's put on her. I feel for her. Of course a head of state, a prime minister for instance, has more responsibility for the country. But his reign is limited to a few years - a king's/queen's job lasts a whole lifetime. Although she's very rich and highly privileged, I don't envy her for a minute. And I don't know why, but I have a feeling, that her parents had a hard time, explaining what her life will look like and what her job entails.

Leuk om Amalie en d'r vader Willem Alexander en d'r moeder Maxima deze plechtigheid te zien uit voeren. Ook dit keer keer vind ik beide dames qua kleding een goede modebeeld vertegenwoordigen met name de bordeaurode jas van Maxima vind ik mooi en bijpassende handschoenen. I give my unconditional love to everyone, but I do not love the concept of royalty. I would rather free the Dutch Royal family from the burden they carry from owning so much stolen wealth. When we stop feeding parasites with our time and energy they will disappear. I am looking forward to the day soon when we no longer look up or admire 'elite' criminals. I take it this is some type of official service, not unlike the investiture of the Prince of Wales, in which the king speaks of the duties a crown prince or princess takes on to prepare for the role as sovereign one day and then the heir(ess) apparent to the throne makes response, accepting same to serve the people of the nation. Is this correct? I know Amalia has been studying in Wales, I believe in a post secondary school course of study, not unlike college or artisan work. I take it this is done upon achieving one's majority at age 18? She seems calm and accepting.

This is not really a swearing in. This is just one of the duties by law: becoming a member of the council of state. She will attend the meetings in the future, as lessons on state affairs for the future. Unlike real members, she won't have a vote (just like Willem-Alexander and Máxima). Her father, King Willem-Alexander, is the chairman, but the vice-president is the one who is really in charge. It's not Amalia who studied in Wales. It's her sister Alexia who's there at the moment. Their father Willem-Alexander attended UWC Atlantic as well.
