That is a little messed up. Love doesn't come with the condition of it being reciprocated. You can't truly love someone just because they love you. And you can fall in love with someone even if they don't love you back. If someone is with someone else just because they like how much they love them then that will hurt both of them in the future.

Well the thing that most still dont understand about this movie and plot and they keep saying that Rahul (Shah Rukh) is a jerk in that film, because at college he didn't even look at Anjali etc.... Well Rahul always loved Anjali he just didn't realize it back then.. his first love was Anjali, but because they were always hanging out together in college and joking around, they were more like best friends their love never saw the horizon... and when Tina came that hidden love remained hidden and Rahul went on with Tina... If you guys remember the train scene in which you could clearly see the pain in both of their eyes... plot wise Tina felt guilty, because she knew that she separated them and that Anjali loved Rahul more than she could ever love him and vice versa... that's why she told her daughter to bring them back together because of that guiltyness...
