Amanda Lear shares the secrets behind her iconic looks | Vogue France

Amanda Lear has been a model, a muse to Salvador Dalí, the lover of David Bowie (with whom she collaborated on the video for "Sorrow") a "Disco Queen" in the 1980s, an actress, and a television presenter in Italy. One thing is for sure... She has left her mark over the ages, fashioning a persona made up of a thousand stories and styles. Exclusively for Vogue France, she looks back on the most important encounters that have impacted her life. She recalls meeting Andy Warhol, Robert Mapplethorpe and Jean Paul Gaultier, as well telling us about an unexpected tête-à-tête with Anna Wintour.

Anyway, I definitely didn't grow up during her career as a singer so I was quite oblivious about why she was that popular and the few times I saw her on TV, I was just little kid and I don't watch TV anymore, they certainly mentioned it every time but I don't remember, I didn't care too, I was just a kid so... lol Also what I meant by "outside of France" is more "worldwide" actually. The fact that she was popular in Italy or our neighbor countries isn't that surprising. Haha

That was not so easy you know to have Rolling Stones and other giants after your name...Undoubtedly she had her era of glory. I believe she could do much better with her singing career if she had replaced some songs but she was not alone in her choices.Also don't think that it was so easy to be well known in other countries in Europe. Those days there was only T. V and radio... Four or five great French names were famous around Europe, 2 or 3 from Germany 5 from Italy...That's what somebody could listen in the Disco's in those years.... All the rest were from USA and UK...
