Finally I get to see the real composer and singer of this song. This song came to me with astounding wisdom and the truth. It will go down as one of the most beautiful songs ever written, albeit no due fame or commercial success.

“I wrote it in 45 minutes…”, said the American country singer-songwriter, Amanda McBroom, referring to one of the greatest songs ever written! A simple short melody repeats 3 times. On second repetition the lyrics deliver 4 sentences that rival the wisdom of every age and the utterances of every sage: • It’s the heart that fears breaking that never learns to dance; • It’s the dream afraid of waking, that never takes the chance; • It’s the one who won’t be taken who cannot seem to give; • And the soul afraid of dying that never learns to live. The creative power of the human spirit never ceases to amaze me.

When I was a teenager I would sing this song. I didn't even know who wrote it. Bette M. Was my inspiration but you Amanda are the vision. Oh thank you for putting words and music together perfectly in such an imperfect world. You're a little miracle!❤❤❤

My wife and I just spent our 28th wedding anniversary in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. I asked the staff of the hotel to place a dozen red roses in our room. When we arrived, my wife was nearly in tears. Sometimes the nights have been too lonely and the road has been too long. But love has seen us through!!! Following our stay and arriving back home, I thought of this song. Curiosity got the best of me and I googled the author of "The Rose". Thanks for blessing many with "The Rose"

This was playing in the delivery room upon the birth of my first daughter. And its how I know that someone beyond our scope of knowledge knows and cares. It was a prophecy of her life so perfect. But the seed underneath the frosty snow may never feel the suns love... I can only pray she awakes one day. Thank you for your song, just wanted you to know.

Sometimes songwriting is like that. It just comes to you, out of nowhere, and you scramble to get it all down before it's forgotten. But you have to have solid chops to do that too. As a songwriter friend described it "it's like making a lightning sandwich - you have to have the bread ready!"

I just know and listen to this song recently in 2021 via Bette Midler. Really love the lyrics and the melody, so try to search from the internet until I learn that you wrote this song. It is wonderful piece. With my appreciation from Chiangrai, Thailand.
I have heard it called "stage presence" and what it really means is being there, real, preceivable, in communication and duplicatible. It really means Amanda Mc Broom.

It's been hurting so much since my wedding ring fell off my finger and was lost. I feared it as a sign, during a significant hardship, that maybe we lost our connection forever. I wanted to renew our vows when it felt right... get a replacement ring like the one I had. But now I understand the context. I relate so much to love being a razor, and a hunger, an agony that is so physical, when life seems to get in the way of us being as we were in the beginning. But after enduring since '09, 3 kids, overcoming obstacles, I am so grateful to still have my best friend, and that we are more than we ever were. Now, I just want my ring to have a rose. I want to listen to this through every "winter" of my life.

Since Robert didn’t answer then I will...your voice is great. I’m a semi stat trek head (don’t want to scare you) and I saw your episode. I happened to look at your bio and saw that you wrote ‘The Rose’. And all the other artists you have written for. I couldn’t believe it. I searched on KZbin and saw you were in a MASH episode. USO girl of course..! What a wonderful talent you are mam. Would love to hear you sing..! I’m now a fan..lol

I heard a conversation between Scott Simon and Amanda on NPR July 1 and that led me to KZbin. Agree with all the comments about the lyrics and the beauty of this song, and this performance is amazing. I'm ordering her new album today. "Southbound Train" is another great song. Amanda is a poet...with melody...and a beautiful voice.

I've always known of Bette Midler singing this song, I even remember growing up in the 80s seeing her on the music awards singing it. I remember Amanda best on Star Trek and always thinking that she was a beautiful and amazing actress. But, to hear her sing the song and know that she was the one who created it in the first place, you are priceless, what a very amazing woman.
