it aint that serious, but it's kind of the case. basically what ayanna said, though i'd add: it's fine to voice disappointment in people of your group to that group, and if you do it when you're just riffing with a black friend or w/e that's between ya'll there's nothing wrong with that. it's more when you come up to black people and are like 'oh MAN don't white people suck so much haha' that it gets old. just treat us like normal, and when we wanna shittalk racist white people then by all means that's the time to do your thing. also wanna add: you should also still try to actively use your whiteness to directly fight racism with other white people. a lot of baby progressives talk in such a way that can seem paralyzing to white people, but you need to not do that. fight and reform racist white people and work with black and brown people to make better futures. that's the way homie.
@ahuman57723 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I genuinely distrust white people even though I'm white, but that's because I'm an immigrant and before I learned to speak English I had white people calling me dumb and making fun of me and being xenophobic in general (telling me to go back to my own country etc) so I feel a bit weird now that they're all nice to me now that I can speak English with almost no accent lol. It feels really creepy to me, like it's a fake acceptance. Obviously I can tell that I have white privilege still even though in an immigrant (otherwise they wouldn't treat me so nicely now) but I do worry how it might come off if I complain since some people might think it's more performative. I tend to just not voice my feelings around people I don't know too well since they wouldn't know the context. :)

School during the pandemic has gone to hell. It’s like the teachers are actively trying to make students lives worse and then they have the gall to ask how we are. In the UK we usually have a final exam paper or two for each subject that ends up equalling our grades. The government however, thought it would be better to give students a multitude of exams that pan the whole year that end up being students final grades. Some of us took part of the exams for our final grades in the first month of being back. So instead of kids taking six, seven or however many exams usually, they’ll have to take twenty or thirty. I dropped out because of how bad my mental health got and all they told me was I’d have no chance of a future.

Participation points make me so mad. Im a person who's recently learned how much I despise speaking vocally. I will write, type, text to speech, anything else. Yet it has to be my voice. Every time a teacher thinks shutting off the chat for no reason is a good idea to boost student participation, I take a deep breath in my head and pray to my inner self that I have the patience to sit through every grueling second of silence as the teacher wonders why no one unmutes. One time a teacher sat for FIFTEEN WHOLE MINUTES, waiting for students to unmute with the chat completely off. Fifteen whole ass minutes. Waiting for 8th graders to unmute and talk vocally. Just turn on the damn chat. Participation points make me want to punch holes in walls. I dont want to raise my hand. More than half this class has some form of social anxiety and the teacher wants us to take a chance to embarass ourselves? Are teachers just stupid? How the hell do they get jobs working with kids then not make any effort to understand how kids think. And then they randomly call people. Ever consider people have reasons they dont want to talk? Want to call on them just to have them not know and get embarassed in front of more than 20 people? Ive met 2 teachers with at least 0.1 braincell and they still pulled this bs. Group projects. On zoom/during a pandemic. No one wants to be around people god damnit, online or not. The breakout rooms, complete silence. Chat almost completely dead and all the work is on one maybe two people. We are exhausted. Yes, teachers are tired too, it's like when they say "sorry ive been in class all day" ...what do you think we were doing? Crying in the bathroom stall? because thats what I feel like doing. I get migraines and headaches. I dont want to do group projects with a damn migraine. I want to SLEEP. I am EXHAUSTED. I am TIRED of school. NONE of these kids want to work together if its with STRANGERS. These kids dont even want to BE HERE. Ive cried with my camera off. Ive CRIED in class because I was so stressed. I felt fucking stupid because I didnt understand ONE problem. When I asked the teacher for help? Complete silence. "Check your resource notebook" MISS I WAS ABSENT? I DONT UNDERSTAND THAT EITHER?? These teachers are losing their damn minds.

Most people I know have had similar or sometimes even worse experiences. I don't want to get over it. Ugh, that damn "double homicide" shit has bothered me since I first saw it. And people were in the comments like "well she did it to herself" and "why is she crying? She killed it" like wtf if wrong with y'all. Like knowing her storyline is heartbreaking, but even if we didn't it's still not a joking matter. People lack morals nowadays.

One of my teachers is doing a 3 part final project. We didn’t have a spring break. He even said “I know you have finals in your other classes.”

this week i read “hood feminism” by Mikki Kendall and i encourage all the white people in the comments to do the same! it touched on so many of the things amanda is speaking about, and was such an essential read

Yt ppl try to absolve themselves from their ytness with the lil intersectionality they get
@ayannabranchcomb75353 жыл бұрын
And its so annoying because race is usually the first thing people register when they see you. Most other intersections are things you can’t see

I felt so heard when you talked about school. My sister and I decided to go on a drive and listen to music to make us happy, but nothing was hitting... and we listened to the whole Let it Shine soundtrack. Something is wrong when Don't Run Away isn't making me happy.

AMANDA OMG SAAAAAME!!!! I think professors did that this semester because of “school being online” I literally had a final paper, group project, presentation, and a final exam for EVERY class. Only one more week until this hell of a semester is OVER.

We, as the bridesmaids, wore braids to my sisters wedding. She wore her natural hair styled beautifully with cornrows and natural 4C textured extensions. People need to stop internalising these harmful messages

not only have multiple professors of mine given me group projects IN GRAD SCHOOL... we are expected to present them at a conference. hell on earth. im taking a year off
@octaviahuff50943 жыл бұрын
what bothered me this week...well, the fact some men thought making a national rape day would be a cute idea, the boyz protesting the super league, but not the racism in the European leagues, and finding out about the Amhara genocide, sterilization of Romani women that occurred in Czechoslovakia and lastly two words, Aafia Siddiqui.

I dislike participation points so much! I had a teacher who would literally lower a letter grade if we didn't participate😐
@leoambrozevicius55563 жыл бұрын
No because my teacher held me and another student after class when it was supposed to be our lunch break to ask us why we weren’t talking and participating 😐. Like I have an A in this class I don’t have to talk (not to mention at the time I was working on a project worth 40% of my final grade 😕)

honestly talking in class triggers my anxiety so much, whenever i say anything in class i overthink it for the whole class. also i have a bitch face and a closed off and anxious personality so people hate me because they think i’m mean
