I am like a certified Twilight GIRLIE, but Bree Tanner is the *only* twilight book that I haven't reread. It's not even that I didn't like it, I actually really enjoyed the story--the ending is just so grueling and depressing that I was never able to get myself to go through that again lmao. That being said, it's been years, so this recap was needed.

The book ACTUALLY started as background material for the actress that played Bree(Jodelle Ferdiland). She can even be seen on set with the material showing it off. This was commonly known when the book was released. I’ve never heard anything about that story about Bella seeing Bree & therefore writing about her.

Back when I read this book, I really liked it. I guess I was so fascinated and compelled by Bree Tanner because I adore the actress (Jodelle Ferland) who played her in the movie. My teenage emo self really identified with Bree, being an outsider, wanting to belong somewhere or with someone but never being able to fit in, feeling imprisioned and just wanting to break free. I also liked the friendship of Bree and Fred. They deserved so much better
@karenwapinski4822

I read this one a couple times and I actually kind of liked the idea of Bree (although when she chooses Diego over Fred I was also like WHY you've been friends for like one day while this guy has been watching your back for months!) I feel like Meyer does a really good job of introducing characters that have interesting back stories or potential and then drops the ball on them completely; like how in the main series literally almost every side character is more interesting than her leads. I would have loved to see a Bree spinoff and some more development of her, Fred and even Diego before their change and see her and Fred kicking it in Canada.

I actually enjoyed the book, my mom bought it for my 15th birthday by mistake I loved how the narration was simple and easy to read, I got to care for the characters and I’m still thinking about Diego and what happened to him… my heart still aches for his kind soul…, and Bree and the life that she got taken away from so young. I liked how they were immature and impulsive, since they were just kid who suddenly where able to have “superpowers” feed by the lies and illusions of Riley and Victoria

Back when I read this I thought it was the best book in the series. I loved the tragic romance and the sad ending aspect of it, it felt a lot more real to a world of vampires than the mary-sue and gary-sue couple that is bella and edward. I don't remember a lot of the story now, but listening to this makes me want to read it again. I found it especially fascinating how, even knowing what would happen to bree, i found myself rooting for her and diego so much I really was heartbroken when he died. I even started writing a fanfiction once where she survived haha. Loved the video as usual, I hope that Stephanie writes more books for you to rant about because I love to listen to you absolutely taking apart those kind of stories.

Amanda: What is the one thing I never actually got around to reading? Me: The Twilight Saga: The Official Illustrated Guide?! Amanda: The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner. Me: Oh... Well to be fair there are Graphic Novels of the original books too, but they are just the same exact stories as the regular books, from what I know, but with pictures so you technically are not missing anything there, but the art. HOWEVER, the guide does contain backstories and summaries for not only the main characters and all that, but the cullens, the packs, even the volturi and other covens, vampires, werewolves and other side characters too. I had a lot of fun with it as it adds some fun and interesting stuff to characters that were otherwise two dimensional. I would love to see a video about it! It almost goes together almost like a bunch of ideas that Stephenie had for these characters either while or after writing the books and the characters, but some of these ideas almost fall into place like novellas.

I quite liked Bree and her story. As a bloke in my 20s when Twilight was getting big, I got into it via a book trade with the only girl in my trade school class. I would read Twilight if she read Matthew Reilly. So I did, and found the books were surprisingly fun. Especially Alice, she's so awesome, just pixieing it up all over the place and being so random and changeable. Defo the best character in the series. But I enjoyed them enough that I bought my own copies and even bought SSLoBT when it came out. I do wish it could have ended differently, as Bree deserved so much better, but it was a good look at the lifestyle of your typical vamp and really sold how dangerous the Vulturi were. The Cullens never truly seemed to fear them all that much, so it was a threat we were told about instead of seeing. But the way they sit in the background and wait to see the carnage, knowing they can clean up whatever mess was left was so cold. It's been forever since I read the series, so maybe it's time for a refresher. I've toyed with a couple of fanfic ideas that use the Twilight IP and characters. But I've always mostly focused my work around Harry Potter. Which was also a fandom I got into late in it's initial run of popularity.
