@maximeteppe76274 жыл бұрын
@@dnw009 obviously, one can. one can do horror with a high level of violence. One can do horror where no violence occurs. One can do horror where none dies, and one can do horror where most of humanity is wiped out at the end... one can do horror without a hint of sex, and one can do horror all focused on sexual violence, be it metaphorically (alien) or in plain text. I agree that presenting sexual violence in a direct way is very tricky to do in a way that doesn't feel exploitative... which is why most horror on the topic tends to rely on metaphor instead of having rape as an explicit part of the narrative. Nonetheless I think boundary pushing is vital to creation, even if the experiment doesn't completely succeed. I've watched this movie a long time ago. I don't remember it all well, and I don't "love " it. Doesn't mean I don't respect what it's going for.

The idea that my choice to have a kid or not being taken away from me is a bit revolting. Maybe I'm just feeling some kind of sympathy. Like ... I'd find it horrible if I was suddenly pregnant, I can see why someone who would want to get pregnant would find it horrible if her uterus just walked away. To me, it isn't about life decisions as much as choice and being in control of one's own body. That being said, it is still an overdone trope.

I remember my cousin choosing this movie to watch at the theatres. I still remind him to this date-more than 10 years later-that he’s not allowed to choose the movies after I sat through this nightmare.
@KugelBlitz04 жыл бұрын
I remember seeing the movie when it came out in theaters. I thought it was more silly than disturbing, mostly due to the acting and general plot (and also being an edgy "I'm too cool to be disturbed" teenager at the time). However, my impression of what the director wanted was probably him trying to show how depraved humans can become in their quest for discovery. They threw away all moral boundaries but they also succumbed to blind desire, whether it be scientific or carnal lust. In a way, he achieved that. But, at the same time, his method came off as gratuitous rather than meaningful.

Yes. Dren was cute. Until the switch up thing where she became he and he raped his Mom. That was just weird. Even animals don't get with their moms. Afaik. I could be wrong.
@AmandaTheJedi4 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's a great way to put it. It feels gratuitous and often times voyeuristic. I think the building blocks were there as mentioned, but then it just goes off the rails for me

You know how some movies just STICK with you over the years?? This is one of those movies. It wasn't high budget, I kinda hated it (in a good way if that makes sense?) And yet I still think of it randomly every couple of months. I only watched it once, when it came out, but I remembered most of it. Strange.

I think Adrien Brody just thought well i win an Oscar and create new heights (him winning at 29 y/o making him the youngest) and he is just like not gonna try as hard anymore which is unfortunate but i still think he is a good actor just because of that performance, also the only good movies he's in after the oscar is the WAnderson's collabo and that one Woody Allen movie
