different shades of the same colour IMO. Women in the US can and will die if politicians don't get their noses out of women's health issues. American media has a tough time navigating this because it doesn't fit well with the narrative they've been peddling. Liberals are pro-hijab and believe it's empowerment for women and Iran is the world capital of gender transition, as a direct outcome of homophobia. That's a conflict for them to talk about. They can't say Iran is anti-LGBT. It is anti-LGB. Ruins the whole narrative.

Joy was right, and it's really important women understand this. The women in Iran are oppressed on the basis of being women. Women's liberation from men is the primary and central issue here, and that is a collective issue we all have across the world. Uniting women's oppression is important to fight it, just like any other fight against oppression. We unite on the things that effect all of us as a class: the central issue. Ana, on the other hand, is anti-revolution. This woman's father was a part of the extremist right-wing death squad known as the Contras, which she praises. The Contras brutalized left-wing revolutionaries across Latin America, also funded by Ronald Reagan. She also worked for a right-wing administration that made Trump look downright angelic in comparison.

She should respect the customs if and when she is in Iran. However, this interview was supposed to take place in New York City. Why does the President of Iran think he has the rights telling another woman (and a journalist) what to do in her own country? Why doesn’t he respect women’s freedom to choose which is the custom in New York City? “Respecting the customs” isn’t a one-way street, sweetheart.

*Joy was right but Anna dismissed her* -it wasn't a comparison. If we don't watch what's going on in our Country with Women's Rights we will come very close to being _"treated this way"_ which led to this woman being killed by police. Ours will be killed by life-threatening unviable pregnancy and emergency. It wasn't a comparison. It was a statement about Women's Rights. Joy said it's not the equivalent but still we have to watch what's happening to Women's rights in our Country.

Sunny was NOT the one who showed any concern about women, girls or gay people in this segment. Since it was not white Europeans or their descendants harming women or gays or “black and brown people” she doesn’t want to really discuss this so she deflects to talking about her standing on a box.

I'm glad you talked about this, but I'm sickened by some of the narrative here. Firstly, asking the question "was she wrong to not wear a compulsory headscarf?" is a grossly misogynistic question that is extremely out of touch considering the topic...women fighting against compulsory hijabs. Secondly, these women aren't throwing their hijabs off simply in solidarity with the woman who was killed. They are attempting to revolutionize an oppressive misogynistic regime and they've been organizing and fighting against compulsory hijab for a LONG time.

Ana Navarro thank you for challenging Joy Behar’s attempt to convolute issues. Comparing the two would have been a disservice to the woman killed and a distraction from Amanpour’s professionalism. I don’t watch the show anymore but from the limited amount I have seen, I find you smart, fair and a badass yourself. Continue to think independently. Stay fierce.
