My mom was fighting cancer but she didnt tell us she was dying. One night as I left the hpspital, I rode home crying because I couldn't stand watching her suffer. I begged God to end her suffering, even if it meant she wouldn't be here anymore. This song was playing, as it had in my home as a child, and I couldnt stop crying because part of me knew this was the end for my mom. I still go back to that moment when I hear it. He answered my prayer the next day. She went into a coma and slipped away. Idk why im sharing this.

I woke up March 2nd 2002, it was a Saturday, I went into the living room and found my father laying in the living room floor dead. I'll always remember that day and the things that happened. I've never had any kind of psychological help, or any kind of counseling. It eats me at times. But I try to make it through. Idk why I'm saying any of this either, it helps to talk about it I guess. Anyways God bless you.

I went to college in Austin, TX in the late 70’s/early 80’s. There was a dance hall in what was then far NW Austin called The Silver Spur or the Golden Saddle--I’m almost 60 now and can’t remember the name, but it was a precious metal combined with some ranching implement. Anyway , on Tuesday or Thursday nights you could get in free with your student ID and buy a massive pitcher of beer for just $2.00. It was a sprawling place back then, filled with handsome , wealthy young, frat boys in their starched Polo button downs, Levi’s and boots. They wreaked of Lavoris, Ralph Lauren products and beer. It was glorious. “Amarillo by Morning” was the one song I remember played. I’m not a country music fan, but that song was on the soundtrack of my life at age 19. By the way, in Texas circa 1979: you could buy alcohol at age 18. My roommate and I would go there as often as we could and dance the night away. I remember those golden years and this song takes me back to a wonderful time in my life when I was young and cute and thin. Sigh....I used to have a fantastic metabolism. It was like a blast furnace when I was younger. I could take a One A Day vitamin with iron..... and fart nails two hours later. Youth. It’s so wasted on the young.

everyone please try to just understand how much meaning and beauty the king sang here, on one of his many masterpieces. “everything that i got, is just what i got on. i ain’t got a dime but what i got is mine, i ain’t rich but Lord am i free.”. this has been stuck in my mind since my early childhood that had been ruined by my family’s need for constant greed, control, drug & alcohol addiction and early child prostitution in order to receive these drugs. i used this as my life quote, whether i was happy or sad, rich or broke and even married or alone. but all i knew was that all of our days of happiness will come. now i’m happy, broke nor rich, and happily engaged. and yup! amarillo is where i’ll be! 💞

I’ve lived in the northwest (Idaho), midwest (Indiana), east coast (Virginia) and now Texas. I can say that while every place I’ve ever lived is unique and special in its own way, San Antonio is now my true home❤️

The first true country song of my life in the early 80's. I danced miles around the floor of the Country Side outside the back gate to Camp Pendelton when I was a young Marine. Meet one of my first true loves there, Debbie, Sorry we lost touch. D4RODEO was her personal CA, license plate. Such good times. Scott

I was born in Corpus Christi, and am a son of the Great State of Texas. I miss those days living there, and in Waco. I'm a Zony and computer geek now, but I worked on a ranch and ride when I'm lucky. I still have that starry expanse of sky to sit under, AZ is so beatiful, and look up to. The Southwest is so amazing. I do so much like Amarillo by Morning. It takes me to another place somehow.
