यात्री या तो पारंपरिक दक्षिण कश्मीर पहलगाम मार्ग (43 किलोमीटर) से या उत्तरी कश्मीर बालटाल आधार शिविर से हिमालय गुफा मंदिर तक पहुंचते हैं, जिसमें समुद्र तल से 3888 मीटर ऊपर स्थित गुफा मंदिर तक 13 किलोमीटर की चढ़ाई शामिल है.
Amarnath Cave: This is the ultimate destination of the yatra, located at an altitude of about 3,888 meters (12,756 feet). It houses the natural ice lingam of Lord Shiva.
✔️ Pahalgam: One of the base camps for the yatra, Pahalgam is a town in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, about 96 km from Srinagar. The traditional route from here is longer but considered more scenic.
✔️ Baltal: The other base camp, Baltal is a village in Ganderbal district, about 114 km from Srinagar. It offers a shorter but steeper route to the holy cave.
✔️ Chandanwari: Located 16 km from Pahalgam, this is the starting point of the traditional Pahalgam route. Vehicular traffic ends here, and the trek begins.
✔️ Sheshnag: A major halting point on the Pahalgam route, named after the mythical snake of Lord Vishnu. It's known for its beautiful lake surrounded by mountains.
✔️Panchtarni: The last camp on the Pahalgam route before the holy cave, it's where the Pahalgam and Baltal routes converge. The name refers to five streams that meet here.
✔️ Pissu Top: A steep ascent on the Pahalgam route, known for being challenging but offering panoramic views.
✔️ Mahagunas Pass: The highest point on the Pahalgam route at about 4,276 meters (14,000 feet).
✔️ Sangam: This is the confluence point of two mountain streams near the Baltal route.
✔️ Srinagar: The summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar is often the starting point for pilgrims who then proceed to Pahalgam or Baltal.
✔️Jammu: Many pilgrims first arrive in Jammu (especially those coming from other parts of India) before heading towards Kashmir Valley.
✔️ Nunwan: A large base camp near Pahalgam where pilgrims often stay before starting their trek.
Each of these places plays a crucial role in the yatra, either as a part of the journey, a resting point, or a logistical hub. The landscape changes dramatically from the lush valleys of Pahalgam and Baltal to the stark, snow-capped mountains near the cave, making the yatra a journey through diverse and breathtaking terrain.
