Amarrass Nights ft. Rehmat-e-Nusrat and

To honour and remember Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan on his 75th birth anniversary, Amarrass Records & Amarrass Society for Performing Arts curated an evening of music that celebrated the folk and the classical, Sufi falsafa and the stirring sound of the mandolin.
This season’s 2nd Amarrass Nights was held on 13 October, 2023, the day Khan saab turned 75.

Mandolin Sisters
Sreeusha and Sireesha from Tamil Nadu are the only sisters in India to play the mandolin. Their performances are rooted in a musical tradition which draws its lineage from Carnatic music, but has a dash and daring that is contemporary and their own.
"We are so tuned and together that we wear matching outfits, share the same circle of friends and even play as one, our fingers sliding in perfect unison over our fret," the Mandolin Sisters have been quoted as saying.
The two sisters have given over 3,000 concerts in India and abroad. They have performed in Singapore, Muscat, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Czech Republic and Colombia.
The sisters were taught by Vidwan Sri Rudraraju Subbaraju, a disciple of the singer and violinist Sangeetha Kalanidhi Chembhai Vidhyanatha Bhagavathar, who taught Master U. Srinivas, a child prodigy sometimes referred to as the Mozart of classical Indian music.
Rehmat-e-Nusrat
Rehmat-e-Nusrat, a group of young, self trained qawwals from Kumaon hills who consider Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan their guru and muse. The group presents Qawwalis by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Sufiyana kalaams by the great poets Amir Khusrao, Meera Bai, Baba Bulleh Shah, ghazals, Kabir Bhajans, and original compositions. The group was formed in 2014 by lead vocalist and harmonium virtuoso Sarvjeet Tamta, who counts amongst his teachers, Ustadji Wadali Brothers from Amritsar, Ustadji Fakira Khan Saheb from Barmer, Rajasthan and Ustadji Padma Shri Anwar Khan Manganiyar. The group has performed at various college festivals around North India and introduced Sufi and qawwali music to new audiences in their state. The pandemic did not dampen the band's enthusiasm, and they have performed pop-up concerts at Museo Camera Museum, Throttle Shrottle, virtual concerts with Sacred Music Seattle, In2Wild Festival UK, Hothouse Chicago, FabIndia, at major festivals like Surajkund Crafts mela, Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF) 2021, Ziro Festival of Music 2022 and venues such as Windmills Craftworks, India Habitat Centre among others.
