I've always liked Delftware, but never knew the history, thanks so much for that. Everything is derivative, all humankind has built on what others have created and discovered. That's true in all the arts and science. Love your tangents! And I do wish we were neighbors, although we might not get a lot of work done, discussing everything under the sun. By the way, I found you through Scott, at The Old Curiosity Shop, and he would heartily agree with you about thrift stores that charge too much. I think Marie Kondo has helped perhaps millions of people improve their lives, but, as for me, I'm kind of a maximalist when it comes to stuff. That being said, I do need to get things off to Goodwill, thanks for reminding me. Great vlog, Ab!

Appreciate that Daniel! You must be one of Scott's die hard fans. He's given me a shout out a few times and I will get a spike in subscribers and then it goes down. Why? Because most people don't love clocks THAT much! 🤣🤣lol I will say that of the people that do stay they are all very nice, like yourself. I did not give an update on Marie Kondo, but since having her third child, she now says she has let some tidying go. 🤣🤣I just know I needed to start somewhere. When it comes to tidying, the other range of the spectrum is that people can be compulsive about it, which could also be a disorder. Haven't been able to watch too many of Scott's videos lately. His live sales are usually on when I am at work, sadly. You take care!-Ab 😸

Great video, thank you for uploading Ab. I do enjoy hearing from you, it's like catching up with an old friend who shares my rather unfashionable obsession with old clocks. John, Ireland.

Thanks for reminding me you're from Ireland!! Sometimes, I forget who is from where. Have to work my Irish flat cap into one of the videos! 🤣Don't know what's fashionable or not but I think a love of old clocks is just plain good sense. Might have to have a Smithwicks Red Ale and toast to your good health!! 🤣🍺

Hi Ab. I found a dutch clock last winter that did not have weights (lost in a moving) . The clock did not work for almost 15 years in the attic of it's owner. I bought 2 petanque balls paint it gold (for a best look) insert hooks in and it does the job . Runs like a new one. I like those dutch clocks. I'm happy you found one for your collection for a different style. Thank you for sharing. Stay safe....i saw on the news this morning it's 46° in your region,..wow it would kill me. 👍👍👍👍

Nice and cool today Fabien!! Only 42.7 C. 🤣🤣There are so many clocks in attics because when they stop working the owners still can't bear to part with them but perhaps and can't afford to have them repaired either. Glad you found something to replace the weights! Take care up there in the North!! 😁😁

I am thinking, if you have to step over it, then you really need a Conex for nicer storage and organize it so you can find your things you need at the time, lol. It's amazing how school kids are so bad and how life is different after you get out of school. Then there are the ones that turn pillaged and need to be shipped too an island. I like that clock with the pear shape weights. I like the one with the hole at the bottom to show the pendulum bob only. You are still amazing on any history for clocks. You have a wonderful 4th. God Bless.

Thanks Mike! You have a nice holiday as well! Those Dutch two balls show up quite a bit on the auction sites, just make sure you get one with weights and pendulum. Mine had no pendulum and when I looked online it looks like they are holding them hostage!! Good heavens! lol

I liked your opening to this video - sharing tea/coffee - and connecting with others. Thanks, also for showing us the Dutch clock with its wonderful Delft tiles.

Appreciate that, Ross! That Dutch clock was a pleasant surprise for me also. So many nice features on it!! 😸

Thanks Zeke! I try to keep it light though. Every once in a while I am tempted to start a video with that quote from Socrates, "the unexamined life is not worth living" and then tie it in with clocks and time passing, but after considering it decide, "I'll just wash the dog instead." 🤣

Great show today ! I have a house full of French Marble Clocks. No room left, so now I collect English and American vintage pocket watches. And repair. Also, fun to research the histories.

A man after my own heart!! 🥰Sounds like a grand collection!! Not sure I will ever get to pocket watches or watches, but I keep the option open! 🤣🤣

You have over a thousand subscribers so eligible for revenue sharing from KZbin so congrats on that. This video resonated with me on a bunch of levels. I have over 100 mechanical clocks, and yes, storage of them is an issue but I like them. Marie Kondo herself said something recently about not wanting to be so compulsive about tidying up. I like the Zaandam clocks so my guess is I will buy one at some point in the next few years. The movements are similar to cuckoo clock movements. I find myself looking at Shopgoodwill every day because of you. As always the dog stuff at the beginning and organ interlude at the end are nice touches. Looking forward to your next video.

You know Paul, I never wanted to have ads on my videos but when youtube forced ads on the small channels, as soon as I hit 1000, I monetized. I figure if they are forcing ads I might as well get a little. I try to choose no ads in the middle and just have the skippable ones at the begging and end. I'm rather new to it but I'm not partial to making people see an ad. You take care!

Hi Ab, made me smile when you were washing Baby Stinkers 🤣 no way would my dog stay there while i put the hose pipe on her, declutter, or not to declutter that is the question ? i have seen them dutch clocks popping up a few times on ebay and wondered about getting one, then i look around and see how many clocks i have waiting to be looked at, plus ones i am working on and are waiting for parts or cases to be repaired and i know the answer is not yet🙄Take care

Remember that it is all about how you like the space around you. Some don't mind clutter, some do. All I can say is "I'm working on it." 🤣🤣Best regards, Ab.

Greetings and peace to you and yours Saleh! I know with your photographic memory you know where every item is in your shop. That is a blessing. There are times when I need a tool for something, look for an hour and can't find it and go buy another one so I can finish a job. Then when I clean up I find I now have three of them! lol I had enough of that! Best regards, Ab.

Hi Ab : I bought a very similar clock a few years back and it had no pendulum either . I was able to order one from Holland . A business that deals in parts for these . You can google it . Cost me aprox $40 Cdn . Mine has smaller balls than yours but I don't think it's envious . I would certainly like to be your friend . We have so much in common . Take care Buddy . John
@time4clocks Жыл бұрын
Hey John! I saw that site that sells them in Holland. Will have to find the one I need and the measurements and then keep an eye on ebay. Apparently Warmink made these clocks, which are out of business now, and over the years they switched movements a few times from German makers, so I will have to dial down exactly which one mine is. The Dutch would probably be horrified that we refer to their clocks as "two ballers" 🤣🤣No wonder professional horologists avoid my channel. 🤣🤣

@@time4clocks Glad you found the site Ab ! I just sent them a pic of my clock and they knew exactly what pendulum I needed . Let's face it , those weights do look exactly like male genitalia and I am sure the creators of this clock did that on purpose ! I am of Dutch descent and I know how our minds work !!
