In this video, you will see a presentation by James Lea, WX4TV, about "Go Boxes" or in another name "Shack in a box".
It can be very useful in lots of situations (Emergency, Field Days, etc), and besides that, it is interesting from the technical side so you can get interesting ideas if you plan to do something similar.
That presentation recorded during a monthly club meeting for the W6JW Santa Clarita Amateur Radio Club.

I've recently discovered the Lea channel, as I'm looking at go box designs. The young ladies are exceptionally bright and articulate. Great stuff!

I learned a lot, from all your trails and errors. Thanks for the great presentation. And good luck to the girls on their enterprising business. And I love the idea of the "Santa in the box", during the holidays! Great idea to get kids into Ham Radio.

Wow. Just wow. This is an extremely impressive and extremely informative video. Yes, it’s long, but it is a full club presentation that has been posted to KZbin. How lucky are we to gain the knowledge, the trial and error, and to witness a great dad (mom too:) in action! Very impressive. Kudos to your girls for their entrepreneurial spirit. Good things ahead from this group. 😉👍

This is very informative video. I have been really happy with my Bioenno battery & solar panel. I built my first go kit maybe 2005, and it was simply a HTX-202 with 8 D cells, a 2 meter dipole antenna, and PVC pipes/couplers to raise the antenna 5 feet above the ground. Everything was contained inside an orange box I found in the fishing dept at Academy. My current go kit is in a 6U Gator shallow case, and it seems to be a never ending project. 73 KD5YOU

This videos deserves waaaay more views. Bookmarked this to watch a couple more times. Just discovered Bioenno. I am looking for a charge controller for my first go box build. Black is cool looking, but bright is cooler, literally! I will check out the build your own link!

Love the way you guys in the US can just buy all this gear off the shelf. 90% of this kit isn’t available in the UK

@@reHamRadio other than the radios, there are zero power solutions for the outdoors,from generating through storage and connections. As for antenna solutions outside of expensive big brand antennas, you’re limited to making your own from bits of wire,there is only one commercial waterproof radio which only has 10W and is not available in the uk. It’s like the uk for radio is 50 years behind the rest of the world.

I find that hard to believe. I follow several ham radio channels, in the the U.K. and those guys never complain about getting supplies, or having to make stuff from scratch. Especially since ham radio has apparently been in popular use, since WW1 & 2, as an emergency means of communications! And you can order damn near anything from Amazon UK, right?

Maybe try Waters & Stanton Ltd. They are a radio communications equipment distributor and they have a KZbin channel as well.

New subscriber here. I have just switched to Messi & Paoloni coax for my mobile install. Probably move to that at my QTH. I really like the flexibility and the performance is better than LMR cable. I also just got that solar charge controller he mentioned. I also have a 15AH Bioenno battery for portable. Go Boxes - is there a list of equipment from his presentation? He mentioned Gator Boxes, but I didn’t catch the model numbers he was using. Thanks for the video!

Thanks, Brent for sharing your experience. As for the list of parts, I suggest just visiting their website for updates information. Just Google "shack in a box" and you will find it. Good luck, 73.

Why the external "LDG" tuner in the slimmed down go box with the 7300 which has an internal tuner? I am building my box now and would LOVE to know why.
@reHamRadio
@reHamRadio 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian, the main reason is that the internal tuner can handle up to SWR like 1:3, and the external tuner can handle more than that. Thanks.

I like Icom and Yaesu but be honest folks. All of the components in all of the radios are built in China. Kenwood seems needlessly expensive. I guess most amatuer radio hobbyists also deal crack to pay for all of this crazy expensive equiptmemt. Personally I dont get it but I'm sure they are good radios and go boxes.

That's the beauty of the hobby. The more you educate yourself and the more you learn the less expensive you can make it.... or spend as much as you want. But until you research, educate and learn you're caught listening to KZbin used car salesman and you're spending $500 for a telescopic whip and a coil as your antenna. Once you figure the game out you'll be better off.
