**IMPORTANT INFO** 1) The three trees were rotting, unhealthy and dangerous that close to the house. 2) The porch was also rotten, dangerous and not fixable. It was NOT original to the house. 3) The siding is blue, not grey. :)

Your EXTREMELY hard work is paying off! I can't wait to see what you do inside! Question: Are you planning on any landscaping in the front yard? Without a porch, the house desperately needs some shade. We bought a maple tree from a local store, about 10 feet tall, two summers ago - paid about $60 for it. We were careful to plant it correctly (if you plant it too deep, it will grow 'girdling' roots, which will eventually kill the tree), and now it's over 30 feet tall, the trunk has tripled in size, and it's already casting a good deal of shade. Beautiful in the fall, too. Just a suggestion!! Love your parents, by the way (Live Simple, Live Free) - I think the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree! Blessings to you and yours!!

The rule of thumb is to try and keep the house as close to original as possible. Using same materials and style as before. Why even bother and just rip the house down? The porch fit the house, the wood siding fit the house as did the cedar shakes. aluminum siding? Really? Tiny little windows, vinyl at that. Really? Fer petes sake. Its not a 130 year old house now. You managed to beat that out of it. And yes, Im just about to drop a 1912 beauty down on a new foundation. They were going to tear it down. When its done you will think you walked right back into 1912. Sure its harder, but its the right thing to do. At 73, this will be my last house probably. Judy
