Amazing 1935 Warsaw Elevator in Rochester NY

There is a very similar Warsaw elevator in Penn State University’s main library! It is in the library’s “stacks” which are a little creepy but have some nice vintage elevators. There’s also an old Otis in there that seems to be relatively untouched. A few of the floors still have the original call button for the Warsaw elevator. They are black with a brass trim and have a big red light that reads “CAR IN USE” while the elevator is moving. The cab itself looks like it’s completely original besides the phone box and some newer-looking floor labels beside the buttons. The original labels are still there on the other side of the buttons, but it seems the floor numbering system for that area of the building changed at some point and these original labels are no longer accurate. I’d link some pictures but I’ve heard KZbin tends to delete comments with links :(

Apparently most of the old Warsaw Elevator building was torn down in 2002 but the remainder was renovated by Warsaw Box Company.

Dandy historic gated elevator still running quite well 87 yrs later. A few years ago I got to see an Otis 1914 elevator in an historic mansion which is now a museum. It has an elegant wood cab, while the doors operate manually it's automatic floor buttons and call stations on each level. Basement winding drum, DC motor (rectifier) The behind the scenes tour includes the machine room.
