You could join the two together - not have two separate grounds at all - linked in a huge "leisure complex" focused on football but with an interior as big as The Trafford Centre or The Arndale, containing umpteen different facilities with full interconnectivity under one roof. A massive operation, to be sure. The new ground could be merely the biggest and outstanding component, accessed from a number of possible entry points and through a number of different pre-match purpose-built integrated functional parts.

its the roof i love at OT. The way it slopes in towards the centre holds the atmosphere in and focuses everything on the pitch. Its like centre court at wimbledon, every noise is amplified because it bounces off that roof. At wimbledon it means you can hear a pin drop, at OT it means the noise is huge. When i went the main thing i remember is that noise coming out of the darkness. If they build a new one i hope they keep the roof design the same, stadiums with more open roofs just don't hold the same atmosphere imo
@d.b.cooper12 ай бұрын
mate, have ever been to OT? The atmosphere has literally been shit for for like 2 decades. the stadium doesn't help, hence why they keep trying new ideas/singing sections. what a load of absolute waffle...the roof? nothing special about it

I ageee with Joe, these mock ups totally underestimate the footprint a new 80k stadium would even require, let alone 100k. I think they'll have to move some the freight lines and warehouses to another location. That might be one of the reasons for getting the Gov onside. The cost of that must be huge and could only happen as part of a huge overall redevelopment of the area.
@aquilarossa51912 ай бұрын
City's stadium is not City's stadium. It belongs to the people of Manchester. Its current tenants are City. We could play there for a couple of seasons ground sharing, so OT gets rebuilt more or less in the same spot (just moved a tad so it does not have to overhang the railway). Edit: There's a problem with capacity though. Not enough blue plastic seats for current MUFC season ticket holders. There's workarounds for that though e.g., big, big discount on next season ticket if you dipped out on one while ground sharing, plus other compensation. It would cost a few bob to ground share at the COMS, but it would be worth it if we get OT rebuilt the right way. We can still have the Munich clock memorial, Fergie statue and the current historic stand names etc (Stretford end, Charlton, and Ferguson stand etc -- there should be a Busby stand too). I prefer they build a new version of Old Trafford that is still kind of recognizable as our stadium. Kind of like how the new Queen Mary II ocean liner is very reminiscent of the original RMS Queen Mary, but is bigger and thoroughly modern. I do not want it to be an oval. I do not mind multi use, just as long as there's no athletics track between the stands and pitch side (bad for atmosphere).

I guarantee that if the new stadium ends up holding 100k people, the bigwigs at the FA will go above and beyond to ensure that Wembley gets an expansion to something like 110k. They will hate the fact that the national stadium is smaller than a club stadium.

The new Stretford end should be all safe standing. Also, if you've been to the alianz arena, then you'll know that compact stadiums are brilliant. You walk out on the top tier and it feels like you're on top of the pitch. That's brilliant for atmosphere. Then all the concourses underneath are open plan and make the most of the available space
