Yes! You can get a LAANC authorization in a specific area for a specific time and altitude. In the case of Peña Blanca, you can go 100 feet southwest (75 feet away from the shore) and you can get spectacular footage!!

@@natalieandgabriel Mateo & Lisanna tried to flight their drone about a month ago in the area between Peña Blanca (Playuela) and the old lighthouse ruins and the software wouldn't even let the drone take off.
@natalieandgabriel
@natalieandgabriel Жыл бұрын
@@tonytech5520 Hi! Usually, it's a 2-step process. first, you need to use an app like Aloft to process the LAANC approval (FAA authorization to fly the area) The software will show quadrants with numbers, usually from 0 to 400, 0 being a NO-fly zone, and higher numbers representing the highest you can fly in that area. Once you initiate the request to fly, FAA will usually approve the request if you are sticking to the max altitude allowed in the area. Then, you go to your drone, and it will ask you for authorization, usually the drone will send you a text message with a code that you will input into your dji drone, and then it will let you fly, of course, taking into consideration that you are inside a quadrant that is higher than 0. Playa Punta Borinquen Where you can find the old lighthouse is right in front of (Final) of the Aguadilla Airport so that area is 0 no matter what.

I love Crash Boat but parking is pretty difficult so get there early week days and if a tourist, I'm not sure going there on a weekend is a great idea as cars are everywhere trying to find parking. After Hurricane blew over all the palm trees that shaded people, news ones are growing but it will take time so make sure to take a beach umbrella. It usually has calm waters (at least when I go) but you will want some shade if going there so again, keep a beach umbrella with you. I never heard of Peña Blanca Beach so thank you, I will be going there next year for sure! Really appreciate you sharing this video with us.

Awesome video thank you for sharing! And thank you for the buoy tip that is something I wouldn’t have thought of and is so helpful to keep us safe. We’ve never gone to Puerto Rico in January before but we’ll be going this January. Is that time good for snorkeling these areas? And do you have any recommendations for whale watching in PR? 😄

Hi! Thank you! We are so happy it was useful! From December to Feb, the beaches in North Puerto Rico aren't as safe as the south ones, but there's a few that have protected coves that are totally safe for swimming and snorkeling. We have a video called our Top 5 safest beaches to visit all year long, ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJq7g3WVbtiGbLs ) so check them out! Rincón is great for whale watching during Jan-March, but I've seen whales in Arecibo and Manati too, but the safe bet would be Rincón. Also, Rincón is gorgeous with a laid back, beach town vibe and great food and drinks! We hope you have a great time while visiting Puerto Rico and if you have any questions, please, feel free to contact us!!

In January, the currents can be a little strong. We haven't snorkelled Peña Blanca im January, so we aren't quite sure. Two places you can definitely go snorkeling year-round are the Laguna del Condado and Playa la Esperanza in Manatí 😀 Hope you have a super fun trip!

Do you do tours?! I have been to PR twice for a total of 3 weeks with the goal of seeing a sea turtle, yet I have had no luck. I'm thinking maybe I'm not out far enough. Or maybe July is too late? I have been to piña blanca and crashboat. Culebra is on my next vacation itinerary, but idk if time will allow.
@natalieandgabriel
@natalieandgabriel 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kelly! We don't do tours, but if you want to hang out next time you come let us know, we're always up for meeting new friends! I can totally help you find a sea turtle. You're right, July is a little late. The best time is April-June. There are 2 turtles who live year round at Playa Puerto Nuevo in the sea grass meadows, and they are usually easy to find. April-June (nesting season) the best beaches for turtles are: Playa Tamarindo in Culebra, Punta Arenas in Vieques, Puerto Nuevo and Peña Blanca. A good rule is to look for areas with lots of sea grass. Hope you see lots of turtles on your next trip!

@@natalieandgabriel Our Vacation homes are close to Steps Beach in Rincon. We usually see turtles swimming between 500 year old coral. Once, even swan with a manatee there... mostly live in Oregon but go every winter for a few months. The entire westside of PR is amazing and love the ocean sunsets.

Love your video. I am staying walking distance to crash boat and will definitely be doing some snorkeling. I use a GoPro 10 and was wondering if you have used the underwater cases? 5:36 it looks like you weren't. I have no issue with using the case, but I don't want to sacrifice video quality.
@natalieandgabriel
@natalieandgabriel Жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you for the kind words! We don't use an extra case for the gopro. We have a Hero9 Black and it is waterproof. Have never had an issue with leaks - it is important to rinse the camera afterwards with fresh water, as saltwater can damage it.

When Ramey Air Force Base was active, the Air Force had boats stationed here, in case a plane ditched in the water, ready to rush out and rescue the crew. These were called 'crash boats.' Hence the name.

Cool video, but we're not locals, we're Puerto Ricans 😅 Why the difference? When you go to Japan, you say Japanese people (when talking about the "locals"), well, we like it when tourists refer to us a Puerto Ricans instead of locals. While PR is a colony of the US, culturally we're our own thing.
