My uncle is a professional calligrapher and I love watching him work. Sometimes I get to *edit* his work (make sure names and all are correct on the certificates). I absolutely can watch these for hours and even if it's styles I've seen before I'm still fascinated.

Но: меня учили на преподавателя рисования и черчения и мы и так должны были уметь каллиграфически писать. А вообще отмена красивых букв это очень грустно. Коспьютер никогда не заменит живой линии. My dad taught me cursive in kindergarten. I had journals where I wrote in cursive when I was 11. Then I looked at them later and couldn’t read a damned thing. Unless you’re doing calligraphy or writing extremely slow and deliberate for aesthetics, cursive is unnecessarily hard to read and most people don’t need it. Maybe for your signature, but not much else. (An aside, I hated signing things so much because I had to do it so often that my signature devolved into scribbles anyway)

Man this is bringing back my high-school's art honors class. In order to pass you had to be able to write a quote and create your personal signature with ink well and calligraphy pens. It was a pain in the butt to learn, take a lot of practice but the end results were awesome! Wish I never got out of practice though. My handwriting sucks now!
