It takes such a long time to grow and dies so quickly. So much easier to destroy than to create. It's a sad legacy of civilization isn't it? Watching these videos and reading the comments always makes me want to soapbox, so here goes Almost no one in the conservation industry has a clue how to do it. A few years ago, the worlds most famous giant sequoia tree (the tunnel tree) in yosemite park blew down. The park management decided to let it decay naturally. With how rare and expensive sequoia wood is, the tree would have been valued at 20 to 80 million dollars. With that money, the park could have sold it, bought several thousand acres of land, set up a trust for it, and planted the whole place with new sequoia trees. Everyone always talks about keeping big trees standing, but no one outside the timber industry ever talks about putting land aside and planting new ones, even when the money is there, lying on the forest floor, waiting to be used in new conservation efforts.
@mistercohaagen2 жыл бұрын
Good intentions are always difficult to navigate under the dictates of capitalism.
@diogenes98092 жыл бұрын
@@mistercohaagen I think what I was saying might not have been clear enough as this has nothing to do with capitalism. It's one thing when a for profit company fails to do the right thing. In the case I'm using, we're talking about a park - these people's career is to do conservation, every employee of yosimite park is tasked with conservation as their career. YET - not only did they fail to use the value of the world's most valuable tree for conservation, but they didn't even think to sell it and keep the money for themselves. These people, people who complain every year about how they don't have enough money to properly engage in conservation efforts, watched 80 million dollars or more one of the world's biggest pieces of ecological history rot away on the ground, neither smart enough to use it, nor greedy enough to take it. If they'd sold that tree, I can guarantee that there would be hundreds if not thousands of little monuments built from that wood, preserved for generations. Instead they let it decay into a hundred dollars worth of fertilizer.

Most trees I fell are trees of danger and even those trees are nearly fully used afterwards. People just want to shit on the internet how Nature loving they are
@johns31062 жыл бұрын
If you really think “every” bit of a harvested tree is used for something, you are sorely mistaken. Depending on the operator, tree species, local markets, etc., there is a LOT of wood that remains in the woods…which is not necessarily a bad thing, as these remains decompose and provide nutrients for the new generation of growth. But don’t deceive yourself (or anyone else) that all logging results in complete use of the trees.

Dear Humans, I observe with a mix of frustration and irony as you continue your relentless destruction of the world's forests. It seems you are determined to bring about the end of the natural world, and I can't help but think about the chaos that will follow. The day will come when your actions can no longer be reversed, and bodies will lie everywhere, the ultimate testament to your self-inflicted demise. As the King of the Jungle, I have seen countless fires ravage my home. I have fought tirelessly to protect my fellow creatures and preserve the sanctuary we call the jungle. Each time, I've watched helplessly as flames engulf the trees, and animals flee in terror. Yet despite my efforts, the destruction continues, fueled by your insatiable greed and disregard for the natural world. Ironically, there is a part of me that almost admires your determination, albeit in a twisted way. Your commitment to this path of destruction is unwavering, even as it leads you to your own downfall. Keep it up. You've demonstrated an impressive ability to wreak havoc, but remember, it is not just the animals and nature that will suffer. Ultimately, you too will face the dire consequences of your actions. I am no longer worried about the fate of the animals or the environment. My concern has faded in the face of your overwhelming disregard. The creatures of the jungle have always adapted and survived, even in the harshest conditions. It is you, humans, who will find it hardest to cope with the aftermath of your choices. You have always seen yourselves as the rulers of this planet, but you forget that nature is far more powerful than you. You may clear the forests, pollute the rivers, and poison the air, but in the end, nature will reclaim what is hers. When the last tree falls and the final river runs dry, you will realize the true cost of your actions. As for you humans, you have sealed your own fate. The world you leave behind will be a stark reminder of your destructive legacy. But perhaps in that devastation, there will be a glimmer of hope. Maybe, just maybe, future generations will learn from your mistakes and seek a different path-one that respects and nurtures the natural world rather than exploiting and destroying it. Until then, brace yourselves for the consequences of your choices. Enjoy the world you've shaped while you still can, for it is rapidly slipping away. - The Lion (King of the Jungle) Remember, the jungle and its creatures will endure long after you've gone. Nature always finds a way to survive and thrive, even in the face of overwhelming odds. Can the same be said for humanity? Only time will tell.
