You can make your own garage door screens too! I built these bug screen doors in 2017 and filmed the process so this video could be used for ideas or a DIY tutorial. We've used them 4 summers and they are awesome. They are easy to install and the hinged door makes taking larger items in and out a breeze. (That was a pun). The wooden frames are made of pine, so they are very light. Straight forward build.

@@thisorthat411 Ding, ding, ding… you are absolutely correct!!! Furthermore, idk why it matters to @Floridagirl9064, or anyone else for that matter, why and/or how someone chooses to describe oneself!?!?!? I mean, if that is how she wants to describe herself, then isn’t she free to do so??? It is 2024, right??? I think it’s pretty evident that she said, “divorced”, meaning that there is no one else, man/husband and/or otherwise, there to do it for her. But, I would be more than willing to bet that, had she said, “married, mom of 4 adult sons and about to DIY this door myself” then you ALREADY know what would’ve been said then, right??? @Floridagirl9064 would’ve said something along the lines of, “why can’t your husband or one of your adults sons not do this??? Ain’t that what men/husbands are for anyways???”. POINT, BLANK, PERIOD!!! 😂😂😂

Really great idea, thanks for showing how to do it! This solves all my problems I've had coming up with an idea for doors for my 2nd floor deck, which has double hayloft-style doors. All I'll need to do is install those spring-loaded things on the outside of one door as well, so I can secure the door to keep my cat inside, but can get back in, too. Great! Thanks so much! (now to see if I can actually build this, being quite inexperienced with this sort of thing, but i have access to all the tools and whatnot, so...fingers crossed!)

Out of curiosity, I was intrigued when saw you did the hinge in the middle. I am new at this kind of thing, so wondered if you could help me with the why 😊 Also, how is it holding up years later and/or did you make any changes to how it’s built? I made a baby gate height one last year and well, it wasn’t the prettiest but it worked. Since it was on the inside of the garage, I put small wheels on it so it could be opened when coming in and out for gardening/mowing. This year my kitties aren’t little so they will leap right over that one. The rebuild begins 😅 Thank you for this video sooo much! Finally one that doesn’t require sewing…. I stink at anything that requires sewing 😂
@LegacyCraftworks
@LegacyCraftworks 3 ай бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. It held up pretty good, but I always store it inside the garage during winter, so it’s not exposed to constant snow/slush. I haven’t had to change anything yet, and the hinges still work. The support screw on the bottom is very important though, because it holds it firmly in place 👍

Love this design and this great tutorial. VERY helpful. I do have a question. Did you use anything to "line" the bolt holes for the barrel bolts? was thinking how to waterproof the holes and still have useful access. Thanks.
@LegacyCraftworks
@LegacyCraftworks 3 ай бұрын
I just pulled the barrel bolts and let them hit where they should go in. That marked the frame and allowed me to drill the holes in the correct area. The holes don’t go through completely, and my trim is made if PVC so I wasn’t worried about rotting or sealing. You might be able to use plastic plugs if your door frame is made of wood? Thanks for your kind words!

@LegacyCraftworks
@LegacyCraftworks 2 ай бұрын
You can probably make one for a double garage but I would suggest more than 2 panels if you plan on having a section that opens. I can’t remember the cost, but I have a few of the items listed in the video description. No plans, but it’s not too complicated if you measure your door and make a drawing of what you need. Thanks for your comment 😊

@J Carver I built the frames today. I used 1"x 6" treated fir. Everything worked pretty well. From what I can gather from the video, I think his were 1" x 4" boards, but I wanted mine a bit beefier. They are still pretty flimsy using only pocket holes (I did 3 pocket holes on each joint), I may reinforce the joints somehow once I get it all sealed and assembled and get to test it out. I have a 9 year old who is not the most gentle with things, so I am thinking anti-destruction joints! I'll update after completion.
@LegacyCraftworks
@LegacyCraftworks 4 жыл бұрын
The wood I had was 5/8" thick, and about 3" wide. I was able to get away with pocket holes because the wood was very light weight. We have a side door on the garage so we only open this one few times during the summer when we take out larger items. If you use it frequently as an entrance, something beefier would probably better 👍 Have fun with your build :)
