You can use a straw. Cut it to appropriate size, cut in half or quarter to make it slim enough, then make a slit for the yarn to stay. Or tape yarn to a toothpick.

Lacking in everything that a How To video should have: Materials list: Yarn, fork, needle, yes I know that but HOW MUCH YARN AND WHAT TYPE OF NEEDLE. The worst part is that I went out and bought a needle, only to find out that it was too thick to go through the loops. Step-by-step guide on what the heck you're doing: It says easy, which is what made me watch it, but maybe I'm just bad or maybe this is intended for a higher-level audience because this went really fast and I couldn't keep up, and even when I slowed it down I still couldn't figure out what I was supposed to do. Yeah, I don't know how the heck the other guys are finding this stuff so "easy", but I couldn't figure it out.
