Follow along for a step-by-step guide to creating this delectable dish that will want to share with family and friends.
All you need are:
4-6 Medium Granny Smith or Gala apples (or your choice of apple) cored, peeled and sliced into 1/4-inch-thick or thinner slices. Add the sliced apples to a big bowl and bathe them with about a half bottle of ginger ale. Let them soak for 20-30 minutes. This keeps the apple from browning.
1 Bottle of Ginger Ale
1/2 cup of butter (I use unsalted)
1/2 Cup Granulated sugar
1/4 Cup Brown sugar (I use light brown sugar)
1 Tablespoon of cinnamon (use more or less to your taste)
1 Teaspoon of vanilla (optional)
Don't forget the French vanilla ice cream!
1. Melt your butter in a large cast-iron skillet or skillet you wish to use. Add the apple slices and the 1/2 cup of granulated sugar. Mix until apples are perfectly coated in the butter and sugar. Now cover and cook for 15-20 minutes. Stir occasionally and don't let the apples get to tender yet.
2. After 15-20 minutes; uncover and add the 1/4 cup of brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of cinnamon, 1/8 cup of ginger ale and the vanilla (if you choose). Turn the heat up to medium to medium high and cook another 5 minutes or until syrup thickens.
3. Remove from heat and enjoy these delicious ginger ale fried apples over some ice cream or however you choose to serve them. Make sure to share with family and friends. You should be able to serve about 6 people with this recipe.
