So much progress down that to-do list! Btw...no need to cry. Just keep on plugging away, LOL. Do you listen to music, audio books, or podcasts when you're gardening? I worked so hard getting everything ready for the Garden Tour and 80 guests. Woke up to torrential rain that day. No word if/when it might be rescheduled. Now, that was reason to cry in the garden! 😢 No rain in forecast for next 10 days (finally!), so I'm harvesting onions and garlic this week. Great video Danny!

Nice one Danny. My squashes are going in today but my pumpkins have only just germinated (late sowing!) Be careful with the Allgrow - it says not to get it on the foliage for a reason! But it does give the plants a boost - my squashes were looking tired after being in a Containerwise 15 cell for too long. Gave 'em a drink of Allgrow and they perked up in a day! Never seen Coltsfoot before!

Danny -- Onions are bi-annual. They set seed their second year. Sets are 2nd year little bulbs. You can-not grow bulb onions from sets. You need to start with either plants purchased from an established nursery (recommend way) or by seed. You also need to know if you are in a short- or long-day area. Depending on your area you need to grow either long or short day onions. (look it up) Long day will not grow in a short day area and visa-versa Ray Delbury Sussex County NJ USA
@TheGrowUpChannel
@TheGrowUpChannel 3 ай бұрын
Hey Ray! Its a little different here... I'm not American, so we do things a little different here with our onions haha! So we can buy seedlings from seed. Or grow from seed (which I also do) or buy from a small bulb (not a plant) called a 'set' which has been dug up and chopped and dried. We plant them in early spring & they do form bulbed onions. The issue is always the red onions. I do have red onions growing from seed on my old plot, which I'll harvest next month 😊 I've given up on red onion set bulbs, but this particular variety was told to be less prone to going to seed. Alas no haha. So it's back to brown & white sets for early bulbs and red onions from seed 😊🌱

Enormous well done on that shift Danny, your second plot (The Scary Shed Plot hahaha 😁😁) is looking transformed. Do you know what, I would make the journey to Wales to do a spot of bed clearing for coffee and some jam donuts, hard work yet satisfying. Now I am wondering where to put some leeks again on y my rather smaller veg garden they are one of my fav crops to grow too.

We had a year of severe drought and I don’t want to complain, but we had about 10” of rain in 2 weeks and plants are looking lime green and lower leaves yellow on potatoes which I’ve never seen in sandy soil. So yes, I have to agree too much rain. We also have had cooler than avg temps. By mid week the heat dome in SW will creep to Midwest and it will be stifling. The cool nights and hot days cause bolting and I hope no mildew. The spinach started bolting yesterday. I didn’t think onions bolted if from seed in the first year. We are almost ready to pick peas. With all the rain I had to switch to granular fertilizer. To add more water at this point would not be good. Looks like you’re cruising away at your garden and will be booming in no time.

Another year of the weather testing us haha! No onions don't bolt from seed in the first year. They were onion sets I planted in march. Granular fertiliser is a clever idea! I hope the weather changes for you soon 😊🌱

Time to make large piles of compost, 15 plus wheelbarrows of compost so far been spread, hopefully 15 more in the heap, use old straw, daggy wool, horse manure, leaves and perennial trimmings. Have a major nettle problem. It goes to the burn pile.

Hey Helen! That's one thing I haven't built on the new plot yet. I'm using my compost bays on the Fig & Olive plot.. they are FULL haha! Use some nettles to make a feed 😊🫶🌱

Hello Pauline. Well.. last year, I used some for decoration and I found a lovely recipe where you scoop out the insides. Add butter and cinnamon/nutmeg and slow roast them. They came out like mini pumpkin pies. I added some clotted cream inside. They were amazing! Danny 🌱
