Mainz was my first Premium CA, and it's still my favorite. Range, 1/4 pen, fast reload, flat arcs: You are firing in this ship non-stop, which makes it a lot of fun to play.

Just bought Mainz B yesterday and she's a blast to play. In fact, in one run of operations, I managed to hard carry my team with: 13 kills, 19 fires, and 200k dmg. Amazing ship.

Munchen is also a great ship. It's like Mainz at tier 7 and actually has slightly better guns but less of them. Has amazing concealment and is fast.

I got her for 1 year and played only around 50 random matches, example of her battle impact was I got avg 110k dmg per match but my w/r on her only ~33%. My total random w/r is 53% and I still struggled with her.

I love my Mainz and I have good results in it but I don't bring it out often. Having no heal makes mistakes so incredibly punishing. Its a fun ship but not one for a relaxing game.

The HE is not very strong as a salvo, but because of the rate of fire Mainz still has the 4th highest HE DPM of T8. As for T9, only Neptune outguns her... 😮

She is strong due to 38mm of pen baseline and thats not even using IFHE. add DE and flags and you will have a fire starting/IFHE baked into the guns. As far as tier 9 is concerned, youre comparing apples to oranges. the neptune has improved AP and Mainz can be overmatched by anything at tier 9 or 10 (tier 8 battleships will overmatch the mainz)

The Mainz is the tier VIII Des Moines in terms of DPM. Instead of Superintendant, I use Improved AP for the ship. The Mainz has 38mm of armor pen capability so its great not to use IFHE. If you dont want top grade gunner, you can use DE and Consumable action time with the four points or DE and AA as its AA is pretty decent. I run top grade gunner myself. However, I dont like to move into brawling range. I prefer to keep that ship at much as close to max range as possible and burn targets down.

I play lighthouse Mainz. Not full lighthouse, I have the conceal mod but not on captain. Top grade gunner and Lutjens means monster dpm.

Last time I coop randoms with friend in Bayard. Was fun to burn t10 Vermont and gk with he spam if mainz and bayard, we hide between islands and two t10 burned to death

I enjoy Mainz a lot.... she is a lot of fun to play. But I make bad decisions and usually don't survive past 5 or 6 minutes in her. Then in games where I do survive, its because I held back and under-performed.... not really helping the team. Its too bad I haven't "clicked" with her.... she is one of my favorite ships.

I really want to like Mainz but lack of a heal at least one makes me skip it. Without that heal it just sub optimal it's great otherwise good for a challenge but lacking that heal makes it a bad choice

Playing against a well played Mainz in a bb is nasty.. downside of playing her is carriers like all light cruisers hard to stay in cover.

This ship is broken in OPs - you can get 300 damage average in most ops, getting around 2k xp and 1.5mln credits with basic boosters. So... if you are finding yourself in need of credits, just got to the Mainz ATM.

I don't know what you're talking about with subs. They are perfectly balanced and add fun to the game. Wargaming says so. Oh, and they never, ever shotgun their torpedoes. I thought this might be an issue, but luckily Wargaming has assured us that it does not happen.

IF youre dying excessively in this ship then youre doing it wrong. This ship is not a brawling ship. Its gimmick is the 38MM pen capability which eliminates IFHE altogether. I would run DE to improve the fire chance on it and flags as well. This thing will burn targets to the ground. having 32mm of pen and being able to start fires is what makes this ship so good. plus it has Des moines level of DPM even more so when lutgens procs his special ability of improved reload.

My brother, The reason all high skill youtuber players do this is because you are not supposed to mindlessly push. You are supposed to push, when you SHOULD. Skill in this game is all about timing and knowing WHEN and WHERE to move. He camps when it would be foolish to push.

He's showing you what not to do with a ship if he dies early. This ship is NOT a brawling ship at all even with its turtleback armor. The gimmick is the 32mm of pen the guns have which eliminates the ability of having to choose IFHE on the ship. No other tier 8 cruiser will have 38mm of pen baseline. you need to use this ship as a long range gun fighter so that means playing from cover or maneuvering in open waters. The guns are accurate for sure. be mindful that this ship will be overmatched by almost all tier VIII battleships and above. I have the original Mainz in my port and the ship is so fun to play with and disgusting all in one. Mainz for those that dont know, has Des Moines/Salem levels of DPM. I call her the German Des Moines for that reason. Adding Lutjens as the commander and its a wrap
