Funny enough, there's an episode in the sword beasts filler section where Shunsui and Ohana forced Nanao and Kyokotsu to hang out with each other. I'm convinced that episode was foreshadowing this episode.

Lille Barro's Vollständig is clearly goes beyond the concept of all other Vollständig we saw before. The others mostly just has wings and halo, with some additional armor, it is the common image of an angel, but Lille's form is already different at his "second level" Vollständig, it has 8 wings and his body shape start to look inhuman, although still some human trait remains, but his image is start to resemble Seraph from the Bible. And when he turns to his "Third level" Vollständig, there is no human trait left, his wings turned from Green to Gold and power increased even further, completely become the highest status angel with a Xeno type appearance. Just like he said, the messenger of God is beyond human level, so there is no reason their true form resemble human. Lille's strongest attack is called Trompete (Write as God's Horn in Japanese), once again, it is a reference to the Doomsday Horn that start the Armageddon if I remember correctly. This attack is enough to blow away the whole section of the Wahr Welt, which could be equal to a whole Squad Zero Area and I believe judge from the size should be enough to equal a whole city. And of course Lille's attack is X-Axis power, so such huge range attack enough to blow away a whole city can not be block, the only fate wait for the sinner is been wipe out without a trace.

In case you wondered: Since Barro design is based on Bible and Angels, the "Trumpet" is probably a reference to Book of the Apocalypse and 7 angels blasting 7 of their thrumpets. After each one is blown, a new disaster in unleshed upon Earth. More here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_trumpets

One interesting obversation(thats not confirmed btw) is that since Shunsui took the sword ,he lost almost everyone close to him. Yamamoto,Unohana,Ukitake,Lisa(she is alive but he didnt see her for 100 years after turn back the pendulum). I have a theory that maybe the curse transferred to him somehow too

And this episode basically has Shunsui explained why he has a two Zanpakuto. In nature, he only has one, and the combat power he could use is only one Zanpakuto. Shunsui at the beginning only has "Katen", but after make promise to hide Hakkyoken, Shunsui's Katen give birth to "Kyokotsu" to serve as the function of hide the divine sword. So in conclusion, "Kyokotsu" is not Nanao's sword, it is only serve as the hiding place of Nanao's Divine Sword. I saw many people get this part confused but it is quite easy to understand. Shunsui's two sword actually functions as one to combat, and the other is just to hide the treasure, now that Nanao is ready to accept the Divine Sword, Shunsui just need to pull it out from Kyokotsu. It means Kyokotsu's role has hiding place is over but it could still continue to exist as Shunsui's short sword.

Kubo saved this episode with Shinjimaru’s bankai. She weaved the Quincy fate so Lille encountered the only mirror that can reflect his power makes more sense now.

The Shinken Hakkyoken is actually a reference to the Three Divine Tool in Japanese legend. One of the three is called Yata no Kagami (or Yata Mirror). It is a divine mirror that repels evil entity and brings the good fortune. In the real life it has been worship at the Ise Divine Shrine, for Ise family in Japanese history is one of the most important priest bloodline. If you understand this part you could see that the character of Ise Nanao is created to tied with real life Japanese culture of Ise priest and the divine treasure. So in this battle we had the weapon reference to One of the three greatest divine tool in Japanese culture, on the other hand, Lille's holy form is refer to a Seraph and the one blows the Doomsday Horn to start the Armageddon. Just like how he claims to be the one closest to God, Lille is reference to be the highest status Angel. Both character's power and weapon here is reference to the divine existence in the real life culture, which is another point that makes battle interesting.

To be completely honest, Shunsui is not in my high list of favorite bleach characters BUT that backstory of how he got his style of wearing hairpins and the pink kimono made me completely speechless, I did not expect it that he was wearing a safekeeping items for remembrance and you're right this episode is all eye opening with the revelations and how all things aligned for this fight, wow I'm speechless because of how good they tackle the backstory of their relationship, and Nanao is the only one left very close to Shunsui that's why he's definitely not letting her die since all people around him dies almost too quick for him to comprehend now I know why he's chilling all the time because fate hits him so hard that it took all of his love ones leaving him just upset as to why it is happening

I'm right there with you. This was easily one of the best backstories shown. It really emphasized the true feelings and true nature of Shunsui. I really feel for that man, he has been through it.

Basically this is the whole back story of Shunsui, when he is young, he saw kindness and happiness in his brother's family, but that didn't last long. His brother dead because they want to end the Ise curse, left the hairpin and the responsibility to help Nanao's mother to Shunsui, and then Nanao's mother also dead because she want to end the curse so Nanao could live free life, left the divine sword and the other hairpin to Shunsui. These all happen when Shunsui is young, although he has talent and strong mind, but his nature is wish for a easy life. Even it makes him pain and suffer he still carry all the burden and relic for those people he loved and carry the responsibility. Then he became Nanao's protector with the mindset that he will never tell her the truth and hope she could just live a normal life just like her mother wanted. You see, Shunsui has been carry burden and responsibility with pain since he is young and through out his life, yet always pretend to be a relax guy and does not know what stress is. The two side of him reflect on his Zanpakuto power, Shikai as his outside impression and Bankai as his true inner world.

BTW, just a small point, I know a lot of people would hate on Centre 46 about Nanao's mother, but if you think about how Yata no Kagami in Japanese real life, that thing is beyond national treasure level, and the Shinken Hakkyoken in Bleach is a divine tool that actually holds power and holds even more value in religion and actual use area. So it is not something you could say "Oh, sorry I lost it" and without been punished. Nanao's mother is well-aware how important this sword is and at the same time does not want the Ise curse to continue. When she hand over Shunsui that sword, she basically is prepare to die for that. That is how law enforcement system works, even from Shunsui and her perspective, it is an action intend for better future for her Doctor, but to the Soul Society, it will definitely be see as a great crime.

Lilies defeat was technically foreshadowed remember how senjumaru beat lilie in her bankai by reflecting his own bullets off of 8 mirrors killing him, nanaos zanpaktou translates to “divine 8 mirror sword” and reflecting lilies godlike power is the only way to beat him because he’s a actual god atp and it’s theorized that zanpaktou was made to keep the soul king in check and was the weapon used to dismember him although judging by the soul kings power I doubt the zanpaktou would’ve made in difference that man was built different basically a more overpowered yhwach pernida got swallowed by black sand in senjus bankai and “kurotsuchi” translates to black sand also that sword technically did curse shunsui him taking it ended in nanaos mom being executed and later he lost everyone else close to him unohana, yama, ukitake, etc. shunsui is a very tragic character and TYBW made him my favorite character in bleach

Ise Nanao's Zanpakuto, at the same time the Ise head of the family Zanpakuto, Shinken Hakkyoken (Also could write as Divine Sword, Eight Mirror Sword). This Zanpakuto is a ritual sword which has no blade to cut down human, but it has the power to confront, withstand, and reflect God's power as it functions in a ritual. In the Bleach Universe, it should be safe to assume the God we are talking about here means divine beings or the beings with divine power. Lille Barro just as he claims, a man who become God's messenger, both his power and existence has transcendent to a divine being level which even Shunsui has no hope to defeat, but since he is a divine being now, enough to be consider as a "God", that makes Shinken Hakkyoken able to shine the reflect divine light and return Lille's own attack back and defeat him. And the interesting thing is, Lille can't immune his own power is a thing that been hinted before, Senjumaru also used reflect on Lille and his X-Axis attack pierced him, and Lille eventually been defeated in the same way at Senjumaru's Bankai.

I guess she is, but it was technically her mothers doing. We saw the perspective of what really happened, so thats why I said it. What they decided on made sense after thinking about it
