Wow, who still fits into their jeans from middle school?! Brilliant repair work. I loved how the small rip disappeared completely. If only I were as industrious as he is. I enjoyed the lesson. Thank you!

I do. My parents had a habit of buying too wide and too long for me as a kid, and would hem them in, and give me a belt. as I grew older I would remove the hems

Very nice. The repairman's appreciation for the damage as part of the experience and the value the customer has in the jeans is admirable. Lovely.
@Maelthorn13372 жыл бұрын
Amazing craftsmanship and attention to detail. It's crazy that he's even come up with his own major innovation with tackling certain parts of the repair. This was very interesting and educational, as well as being oddly touching and emotional.
@kiwisocks Жыл бұрын
It looks very nice and I'm sure is of high quality, but it's not a major innovation - he did a fast version of darning, which is one of the two methods of repairing jeans (The other is obviously patching, but that doesn't work well in the crotch area and is a different look is others)
@Maelthorn1337 Жыл бұрын
@@kiwisocks Ah, well I'm no jean master. I just went off from what the video said so I'll take your word for it.

@@kiwisocks It does take a certain amount of patience, dedication and skillset to be able to complete a job of this complexity, and to come up with unique to the situation, specific methods to bring a sense of satisfaction to the wearer.
@kiwisocks Жыл бұрын
@@engletinaknickerbocker5380 If you want to get picky about it: he did it the easy way. gluing those undyed wefts in instead of hand-stitching them. But yes, as I first said "It looks very nice and I'm sure is of high quality", but darning is not a major innovation as made out in the video. It is a skill *any* homemaker as early as 40 years ago had, and a lot of people with basic life skills know how now. Thanks to fast fashion and time=money, it's just not commonly used and why it might be a new skill to *you*. If you're interested in learning, there are many youtube videos. It does not require complex skills, you just need a needle, thread, embroidery hoop/darning mushroom (depending on the project), patience, and a magnifying glass, with the last only needed if you want it as show-less as the gentleman did.
@engletinaknickerbocker5380 Жыл бұрын
@@kiwisocks Thank you for the updates on what's going on nowadays. A darning egg (or as some might call a darning wooden mushroom), tapestry needles depending on fabric, darning scissors (little snips), thimble, and the embroidery hoop or something to secure the fabric work area, and various threads are what is in my Tupperware darning kit. My memere worked in the woolen mills as a new immigrant, and I still use some of the very durable thread--it is stiff, and I use it as the initial mesh. I came from a very large family and my mother had a lot of holes to mend, which to the embarrassment of family members she kept these tasks in a large brown paper grocery bag, and trotted it out while waiting for us in our dental, and doctor appointments, etc. Some people knit, and my mother used to darn. Idle hand, devil's work and all that, she deserved her halo. (But, sewing up ripped bloomer waistbands in the waiting area of a busy medical practice was a definitely cringe-worthy. Of course nowadays there's a TV or some other distractions.) By the way, 'fast fashion' was prevalent in child clothing section of discount stores decades ago, so if purchasing something cheap, I used to sew an extra seam around all the areas that get extra wear and tear. Buttons were reinforced, as well. Sometimes I added pockets, too. On the first day of kindergarten I sewed a favorite little ceramic frog in my son's jacket so that he could find it. My sons sported specially designed hand-reinforced patches on their jeans before they even were washed the first time --cotton shrinks, and patches stayed on through the time the garment was outgrown. I didn't take 'home ec' in high school, but collected a few books on the topic. Now, a person can look at Wiki projects. By the time my sons were in high school, life-skills class was required and they brought home some neat projects that they've continued to use. Back to the video. I thought it was well-made and focused on the concept of not just throwing ripped and worn items in a the trash. I thought the information was useful to demonstrate to clients, the work that went into clothing repair in case they had concerns about the charge! I managed to salvage my mother's military wool dress pants that she passed along, which I used for x-country skiing --you can tell my age by the fact that I wore wool pants, and my skis were wooden! Thanks again, and good luck with the darning!

This is a wonderful and wholesome video in an otherwise dark web. The passion and attention to detail given to the repair of those jeans is remarkable. I wish more jeans in today's market merited this type of care. In a world full of H&M and Uniqlo jeans, the future is dim.

Many years ago I worked in an automotive shop. I was dirt poor, & all my jeans got holes in them. I use to take home red dirty shop rags(I forgot they were in my pockets) I ended up washing them & saving them. I used them to patch up my old jeans. I later got comments from coworkers, telling me I could sell them on eBay. Never did.
