In 80s billions of Japanese young bikers (usually teenagers on their sports bikes like NSR, TZR, etc) died due to illegal street racings. So that in 90s those sports bikes had become less popular, then the 70s style choppers were being popular more than ever. Many of my friends used to have their choppers and some still have. But non of them died for his bike, so I suppose American choppers are much safer than Japanese sports bikes. But I’m not a big fan of choppers, I prefer British cafe racers, and my current bike is Ducati 350 desmo :p

The extended front end was actually an idea and developed by the USA national highway safety council. It was an attempt to move the driver of a motorcycle further back in the event of a collision. This idea did not take into consideration all of the engineering design cost , trial and error that went into each machine..no regard for rake, trail, castor, flex, wheelbase, stability, maneuverability, weight distribution,ect.. which is what always happens when goverment gets involved for our own good...

Right at 0:35 when that 2nd bike attempts a burn-out at the drag-strip, you can see the major flaw in the design. The front brake tries to lock up but doesn't have enough grab, not enough weight over it - but when it does manage to brake it compresses the front end and/or bends the "rigid" fork/headstock/frame assembly, and then the wheel begins to chatter back & forth between these two actions, completely destabilizing the entire front end and steering - This was done at a STAND-STILL - Could you just imagine braking hard into a corner of a half-ass highway PANIC stop?

If you look at Wikipedia, it's wrong: There's no such thing as a "suicidal shifter." A foot clutch is sometimes called a "suicide clutch," since a rider can kill himself if the bike's still in gear and his foot slips from the clutch at a busy intersection. A hand shifter, is called that, especially one mounted on the transmission, is sometimes called a jockey shift - if mounted on the tank, it's often referred to as "tank shift." Been been riding for over 50 years and testify that no seasoned rider ever called it a _suicide shifter._ - Copied pasted from Sturgis dot com: _"I've seen the term “suicide shifter” used in describing a plain old ordinary tank shift. Simple ignorance allows that term to be used. There is no such thing as a “suicide shifter.” Nobody has ever died because of using “hand shift.” There is however such a thing as a “Suicide Clutch.”"_

Trust the Japanese to outdo the Americans haha Love this stuff. Each to his own and this is the stuff that keeps living spicey.

You got to have like the highest degree of mechanical skill to keep those old Harleys running good. And it's probably got to be even more difficult for someone living in Japan. My hat's definitely off to them dudes.

these bikes would be great if only the forks were 20 feet longer or so

Personally I like a bit more cushion in the rump area. I like the extended forks but always worry about them breaking in half. I like the old twisted forks.

Had a hardtail Triumph chopper running a 750 Tiger. Bit bumpy but she looked good. Forks weren't as long as these ones on here but I use to dream about it.
