Just for an info: I realized that if we want sum of product of roots taken two at a time in such cubic equations which the matrix satisfies, we can find sum of product of diagonal elements taken 2 at a time. For instance, at 3:32 we can see from the equation the value of product of roots taken two at a time is 14 [by property of cubic equations], and we can confirm that by taking sum of product of diagonal elements 2x1+1x4 + 4x2 = 14. This is very useful as sometimes they may give unknown parameter as coefficient of A and may ask it's value. We can use this method to find it.

There are lots of assumption needed for the trick to be valid: 1) u need to always check if the given nth degree eqn for the nxn matrix is the characteristic eqn of the matrix or not, then only we can say that the product of roots is the product of eigenvalues (det(A)) and and the sum is trace (sum of eigenvalues) 2) you just cannot blindly assume that the given equation will always be a characteristic equation (in most of the jee questions it is), there's a theorem that if the eigenvalues are distinct for the given matrix, then the characteristic polynomial is the least polynomial satisfied by the matrix, so any other polynomial of same degree will be just a constant multiple of that Basically, every matrix satisfies its characteristic eqn, but if a matrix is satisfying some eqn, it need not be the characteristic eqn The questions do satisfy these conditions, that is why the trick works, JEE advanced always gives valid questions, sadly the theory taught to you guys isn't valid enough. In the jee advanced question if u check the characteristics eqn of M, which is quadratic, the disciminant of it is never 0 (u can check), that is why the eigenvalues are always distinct, that is why the given polynomial can be taken as some scalar multiple of the characteristic polynomial, that is why the sum of roots will be the sum of eigenvalues (that is = trace)

Amazing video sir , alpha* = 1/2 and beta* = -37/16 ( by completing the square method ) , so the answer comes out to be -29/16. Thankyou so much sir for such an amazing shortcut

Beta = negative of a quantity which is always positive This implies that quantity must be at its maximum for beta to be the most negative and hence attai its min -Beta=(sin²2x/4+1/2)²+7/4 Max of rhs is at sin²2x=1 So beta=-37/16
