There is a tower located @ 55 East Washington in Chicago, IL. that has the exact same heat sensitive call buttons, they are not in use anymore (they were in use till about mid 2005), and they have a modern button setup next to the now defunct touch ones

@suzzex These buttons were discontinued, because fires would call the elevator to an engufed floor. I think in today's Tuch-Sensitive Buttons (which ARE, now that I seen them live), are Resistive-based, which doesn't trigger under high heat, like Capacitive ones do.

Nice elevator. I remember The Camelot Hotel (now Doubletree) and the Holiday Inn (now LaQuinta Inn and Suites) had these fixtures.

@dieselducy Yes, it has. There was one instance, easilly found searching Google, that firefighters had to rescue their own, because someone started a fire outside an elevator, and the buttons forced it to stop on that floor. Because the buttons were "always pressed", the elevator could not leave the scene.

@Computerhelp92 They are like phantom buttons. They resemble 2, 3, 4, but are labeled no-stop since that is an express zone.

@NEXPAR They kind-of did, although it's still a push-button, but some newer buttons have super-shallow travel distance, almost giving that sensation of a Heat-Sensitive button. DD was fooled by one of these setups. :)

These buttons are not heat sensitive - search Google for "Otis TD73" or "Otis 2040". They work by capacitance and electrostatic field. Wikipedia and electricstuff . co . uk have more information on thyratron tubes.

touch sensitive buttons are nice. that light rim around it is cool. wood is a good choice for that elevator. my JVC should be able to film in that light. why are 2, 3 and 4 missing? (sometimes the lowrise elevator is somewhere else.)

One thing to NOT like about the Heat-Sensitive Buttons: Instant Death Traps. If they replace the hall stations, then it's fine.

@suzzex True, but in these cases, the buttons are triggered, prior to Fire Service being engaged. That's how 2 firefighters on a story got trapped.

Sadly I think everything here's now been modded by Otis.

Everything here except the Freight Elevators and 1 bank of passenger elevators. These and 2 of the other banks of Touch elevators are modded now though :(

Yeah I figured out later that luckily that 1 bank's still original. That's good & surprising. It seems no 1 for sure knows the status of the freights, esp. how there's several of them.

@@EWPA14 2 of the Freights are still original Manual Otis, 1 got modded. I'm not sure the Status of the Black Button Freight, all of the doors to it were locked when I was there
