Just got the exact same color Grote Semi-hollow with P90 pickups. I had no blemish on my guitar. Some rough edges on the binding on the back in some part, but I quickly removed it my Micro-Mesh 3 x 4 Soft Touch Pads. I used the 1500 and 12,000. A few fret ends need some light sanding. I look at the blemishes on the guitar as the start of relicing. Some people pay top dollar for relics.

Because of one of your videos a few years back I purchased an Oscar Schmidt Delta King by Washburn Semi-Hollow electric guitar like a Gibson 335 and the guitar in this video. It was a $239 purchase from Amazon and I still have her. Note she arrived with a bad neck pick-up or a bad wiring connection. However, because I could not print out the Return Label they did send me I ended up keeping her anyway. I'm glad I did because its a good instrument, even with it's problem. -Peter age 71 P.S. Sweet! I just found out today that I got a small surprise bonus at work that is just about the exact right amount for this guitar, and it was only just yesterday that I first discovered this piece on Amazon. Then seeing your positive review for it now today.....it all seems fortuitous. So I think I'll go ahead and "add to cart!" Mine will be the dull red with black binding version, though. Yours looks better, I'll admit! But mine should at least sound the same and be the same quality. This will be my second double-cutaway semi-hollow (and fourth if you count guitars I used to have but no longer do) but it will be my first ever guitar to have P90's. I've never had one before in any form factor, and I've been looking for a low-priced entrance into the P90's world for a while now, but one that was at least somewhat decent quality. It seems like I may have finally found it! Thanks for sharing! :-)

@@tonyleeglenn sure! I know not to expect an ES330 out of it. Of course, I didn't pay for an ES330 either! 😂 Most of my guitars are in the "mid-tier to economy" range, with the only exceptions to that being a 2009 Gibson Les Paul Studio, a 2008 Fender American Standard J-Bass and a 1999 Japanese Yamaha TRB-II F Fretless Bass (which after inflation would've been the most expensive instrument I own had I bought it new). Factoring that trio out, they're all cheapies with the "finest" instruments (by price) being an Ibanez RG450DXB that I just got a month or so ago, and an identically priced Ibanez Artcore hollowbody that I snagged a couple years ago. In my experience with the new breed of super-cheapies, I have found that they're certainly not "fine" instruments by any means, but that they're also usually surprisingly good for the price, and could probably be said to "hit above their weight class" better than any other price tier out there. I had mentioned that this would be my second semi-hollow. The other is the similarly priced Firefly semi-hollow with two humbuckers. And I was pleasantly surprised by that one. I can't wait to get to do direct compares between it and this Grote. I'll slap on identical strings so it's as close a comparison as possible. Cheers!

They just sound different. They are a really cool sort of tone that is somewhat unlike standard PAFs or fender-style single coils. I would'nt say they are better, but just a nice separate little world to discover. I'm glad I have one semi-hollow with P90s, but don't think I'd switch out my humbuckers for p90s on my As73. Thanks for the video but not to be rude it "may look like wood" but my understanding is that this Grote has essentially a photoflame top. I just bought this exact same guitar, partly based on this and similar KZbin reviews. I was very disappointed when it arrived. As much as people go on about it being an $189 guitar, nobody seems to consider freight, so I guess they don't pay freight where they live. In my case the freight from China to me was as much as the guitar itself! It wasn't available on Amazon when I ordered so I bought direct from the factory. I also don't pay in US$ so need to convert both the guitar price and the freight to my currency. I could have walked into a local guitar store where I live and purchased an Ibanez or similar good brand for less money! As for the guitar itself. The binding etc is plastic and the whole guitar looks and feels cheap. The binding along the neck doesn't fit into the wood perfectly and leaves an annoying ridge along the neck. The fretwork from fret 12 onward is terrible. One fret is popping, and is not finished on the ends so is very sharp. The heights of frets seem to be all over the place (I won't be able to see exactly what's going on until the strings are removed and we try to repair this mess). The 12th fret inlay is popping off. I may get lucky and it's a single popping fret, but 2 other frets have "dents" and marks in them so may need to be replaced anyway. The end result is it has little to no resale value as a cheap Chinese brand, is unplayable as is and will need serious repair before being able to use it. It probably would not be worth repairing at commercial luthier rates. This is all a great shame, as it came well packaged and protected, not the single cardboard box Tony had. Other than the massive neck relief it currently has in order for it to play at all, it looks like it potentially could be a very nice guitar to play. However it was very clearly shipped from the factory faulty and it would appear massive neck relief simply put in so it would at least play a note.
@tonyleeglenn2 жыл бұрын
Wow! Can you get a refund? My experience is totally opposite. Currently there are 142 reviews on Amazon and 4.5 star rating. Mine is just a joy to play. Also I didn’t have to pay exorbitant shipping fees. That’s not cool for sure. Hate to hear you got a bad one.
@8860142 жыл бұрын
@@tonyleeglenn I'll contact them once i have photos taken, but this isn't the first time I've heard of fret issues with Grote guitars. Amazon tend to be extremely good with refunds in my limited experience in that situation, but that's not always the case when dealing directly with Chinese manufacturers in my similar experience. Generally speaking they won't pay freight so refund isn't worth it. It looks like everything is fixable, but at the end of the day I was comparing this guitar to one just a little bit more $$$ (when freight is considered, as it should be) in a guitar shop the other day and it was night/day quality wise. The main annoyance is the inconvenience of now having to go through all this, even if they were to hypothetically offer a full refund, it was clearly like this when it left the factory, the sharp end on the lifted fret was a dead giveaway. Having said all that, yes I think it will be a nice guitar to play once it's all repaired and setup. If nothing else it's re-freting experience ;) BTW, great watching and listening to you play. Good videos and engaging. Thanks for putting videos up to share with the world
@8860142 жыл бұрын
@@tonyleeglenn Tony I wanted to give an update on this. I provided the photos to Grote and they were very proactive about coming up with a solution. It's obviously not ideal, but credit to them for that. I also requested they send a set of new frets, as some of the originals were damaged and I'll install them when able. For now I've hammered down the high frets and got everything playable with a pretty good action. I re-installed the factory strings just to test everything so that won't be a fair test of tone etc until I get some new strings on it.
