Dave, I have been working all ham bands, from 80M through 10M, using the ARRL antenna kit. To cover 80, 40, 30, 20, 17, 15, 12 and 10 I extended it, as you described, with another ~65' of wire. Except for the top of the 80M band, which was the subject of my question addressed in the May 2023 QST, all are below 3:1 and tune with my FT-450D's built-in tuner. For 60M, which is used for Armed Forces Day Crossband Test (which, e.g., we participated in just last Saturday), see ARRL webpage "news/view/annual-armed-forces-day-crossband-test-1", and some Army MARS COMEX events, see ARRL's webpage "MARS Announces Schedule of Dates for 60-Meter Interoperability", I replace the 132' wire with a ~98' wire using the same ARRL-kit 49:1 transformer. IMO, the EFHW in NVIS configuration is an inexpensive, easy-to-hang, acceptable-performing all-band HF antenna for EMCOMM and hobby use. BTW, on Saturday's Crossband Test we made phone contacts with NSS (Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD) and, suprisingly, AAZ, Fort Huachuca, AZ, despite the fact that our EOC is located in northeast New Jersey. Added a couple turns to the tuning coil for my efhw and brought down the upper bands above 20 meters. A little bit of time with an efhw will bring all the bands well within a 2.1 swr 80 -10m and less. but move the antenna a little and all the tuning changes.

Hey Dave -- I think you've mentioned that you have another wire antenna up as the reference station antenna. If they are both roughly at the same height and orientation, it would be fun to A/B test the ref antenna against the EFHW. See if any there's any difference in reception reports (local or DX).

Dave, thanks for the video. My EFHW works great on the WARC bands (12, 17 & 30 meters). The internal tuner, in the radio, easily 'touches up' the SWR on the mentioned WARC frequencies. Very versatile antenna and is one of my favorites. 73

Mine does the same for 12 and 17. 30 is a bit above what an internal can do, but easy for even a basic external

Regarding 17 and 12 meters, while the SWR value is below 2:1, it's a flat line. I'm always suspicious of that. If an antenna resonates at the band, I'd expect to see a dip in the plot. Maybe you'll see that if you zoom out, maybe not. Seeing an acceptable SWR but without that dip, is usually a sign of it being a dummy load!

Curious how it looks on 160m. I use the infamous "mystery antenna" for the bands except 17 and 15m. I'm shocked that my LDG 600 ProII tuner can find a match on 160. I get surprisingly good results running 100w on160m.

I use an EFHW and those SWR measurements are going to vary with height above ground and orientation.

i just put up a end fed dipole flat horizontal orientation going from house to the east what will my radiation pattern look like . Better north and south ?
