Nice one. That reminds me of a very old Torley video "How to play piano like Philip Glass"

I was introduced to Glass's music in the 80s when I heard "Songs of Liquid Days". What a wonderful work that is!!

I love Philip Glass, Tolstoy's Farm is amazing, Music in twelve parts (part 12), Glassworks, 1000 Airplanes on the roof, North Star and Spaceship from Einstein on the beach are my favorites...

As a beginner, 16th note are a bit fast for me to play. The explanation and ideas are really great. Thanks!

Glad it was helpful! I find the 16ths hard to play too!

At 20:03, you say ‘3 note pattern of eighth notes (LH), i think you mean quarter notes.

This unlocked so much for me. I really enjoy minimalism but was unsure how to produce effective results on my own. Thanks for breaking this down!

Beside the ostinato, Glass is very good at voice leading.

Minimal piano is just techno without drums and.. you know, on piano. No, srsl. Polyrhythm, loooong hypnotic repetition, simple but precise harmony, slight changes usually moving in "block" structure in which you add/subtract some elements to provide enough change to justify repetition, but at the same time force listeners to stay in the same(similar) soundscape as log as physically possible. Minus the drop, yes. Maybe minimal piano need juicy drops, why not? 😂

Couldn't agree more - the minimalists shaped EDM and that's one of the reasons I love that exact approach to writing no matter what sounds or genre 🤘🏼
